What were you glad you had you had onhand post surgery?

Recommended Posts

In terms of food, comfort, stuff from the pharmacy what were you glad you already had at home?

What made life a little easier for you in those first few days? My husband doesn't drive (once a NY'er, always a NY'er...*sigh*), so I'm trying to assemble everything now.

Anyway, now that you're on the 'other' side of the proverbial band, what do you guys recommend I have waiting for me at home from the grocery/pharmacy?

So far, I have,

From the pharm:

Gas-x strips

Rx filled for painkiller

Pill cutter/crusher

Kelo-cote

From Target/Grocery:

Jello pudding (I hate regular clear jello)

Applesauce

Tea

broth

Cream Soups (mushroom, chicken, Tomato - all without stuff in it)

Crystal Light

Muscle Milk shakes

Water (obviously)

Little 3oz cups to put the stuff in

I know that I'm going to need the pillow fort to sleep at night. Thankfully, I'm pretty good at building one from all the experience of the pregnancies 03.gif.

Anything else? Can I do small amts (think 1-2 tsp in a 2c.) of tiny well done pastina in broth if I blenderise it just to give it some oomph?

Thanks!

My boyfriend, who stayed the night in the hospital with me, sleeping in a chair.

Otherwise...

Crystal light

my mom

a pillow

and my pain mediction.

Other than that, you wont feel like eating all that Soup and Jello and pudding.

BUT THE GOOD NEWS IS!!!

I was up an attem 4 days post of with very little pain. It's a nothing surgery, really.

LOL, yeah, with two kids at home, that's not gonna happen. Besides, I'm kinda excited to have the relative peace and quiet of having a bed to myself! No husband, no dogs, no kids! Sounds like a kind of heaven, believe it or not... :)

I was just thankful I didn't feel hungry all the time...but that's back now!

I was thankful for my pillow, gas-x, pain pills, and a blanket. I also found I was very comfortable in my flannel pajama bottoms because they didn't tighten up around my stomach whether I was walking, sitting down, or laying down. Of course, I was also thankful for my hubby because he would rub my back or legs, whatever I needed in order to keep the gas bubbles moving around! I have a massager too that helped with gas bubbles. :)

More than the Protein Shakes and Water, what I used most of all for the first 3 days and nights was my recliner, a heating pad, and a pillow that I put over my stomach to remind my kids and husband not to go near that area when giving me lovely little kisses! :)

I really liked having the broth the day after, but then got sick of it. Then added an egg and made egg drop Soup and was happy for it again. :)

After that I loved cream of chicken soup and Propel Water.

And my small pillow to prop under my belly at night when I slept.

I needed some throat spray like chloraseptic. My throat was soooo scratchy from having the tube down my throat in surgery. The ice chips I was eating the day of surgery wasn't helping much for that. The spray worked great. Also, for broth I used the flavor packets in Ramen noodles. It seemed I was wasting all the noodles and vegies from other Soups when I'd drain off the broth and we have tons of packs of ramen in the house. It's very cheap also, cheaper than a can of Soup.< /p>

liquid Tylenol. The pain med they prescribe made me feel nauseaous (spelling?) and sooo sleepy, that I couldn't even enjoy my time off work! :)

My husband went out and bought a recliner for me because I couldn't lay down on the bed without pain and spent the first night sitting up on the couch sleeping. The recliner helped push me up without many muscles, and allowed me to sleep without too much pain.

Add sugar free popsicles... The were a life saver for me... When I wanted something sweet(but is was sugar free) and ice cold....

When I wanted warm, I made the sugar free pudding on the stove, with fat fat free milk, and ate it warm....

Never liked the instant kind....

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
