Hi,

I haven't been banded yet, but I am researching Lapband surgery. My primary care doc suggested it since I am fat, with high BP, pre diabetic and miserable.

I would appreciate some insites from those who have had the surgery. I have tried everything. Since I tip the scale at 228, I don't exercise because how can a person 100 pounds overweight manage to exercise. I used to ride a recombant bike religiously. Once I quit it didn't take long for the pounds to pile on and I haven't been able to get it off.

I have tried Jenny Craig (almost went to the poor house), Weight Watchers, Medifast, Slim Fast, Nutri Systems and here I am after all that money gone still fat and not so happy.

Well, that's my story and I'm stiking to it.

I was really glad to find this forum. I need to find other people who have experienced this misery and finally found hope in the lapband surgery.

I am glad to be here. Thanks for inviting me in.

PS

Did I mention I was run over by a 1200 pound horse which is why I stopped riding my bike. Well, at least the horse out weighed me.

Hi and welcome to LBT! This is a great place for support and information. I hope you have recovered from your accident. How terrible! But exercise in any form (walking, riding a bike, etc.) is a very important part of losing weight, even with the band. I am 160 pounds overweight and not yet banded myself, but I still manage to walk at least 2 miles almost everyday. There are others here who have had trouble exercising because of their size, so you are far from being alone. Just realize that any amount of extra movement is beneficial, no matter how long you can do it. The main thing is to increase that activity level gradually over time. Check with your doctor before starting anything, of course. My LB doctor has a fitness coordinator that his patients consult with during the pre-op phase to develop an exercise program. If your doctor offers something similar, be sure to take advantage of it! Good luck and congratulations on making the decision to take control of your weight!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
