"omg" I Finally Got My Surgery Date

Recommended Posts

I can't believe it, I had a date for May 16th and then found out the very same day my insurance changed and was told I would have to get a new referral. I did and now my date is April 21st, go figure. I'm not complaining except now I'm nervous and excited at the same time. Before I was worried about the date in May because I have my Mothers 80th bd in June and My (older) Sisters Wedding in August. I'm hoping now with the date earlier that I should be into a routine w/solid foods.

Good luck to all you ladies.

I'm 55 and if you noticed my parents are in their 80's, so I pray this new life will be long, healthy and active.

Thanks Terry,

I have my pre-op this Wednesday, not sure what to expect. They didn't give me a pre-op diet. Is that normal.

I'll keep you posted.

Thanks again, you are all such a blessing.

Carol

Hi Carol,

WoW! The doctor didn't put you on a pre-op diet? I had my surgery in Mexico but I was put on a pre-op diet. Well....they told me to lose as much weight as I could before surgery. I didn't do well with that; I only lost 6 pounds. The reason they want you to lose weight is because it will help shrink the fat around your liver. It is up there close to where they will be putting your band on at. I weighed 206 at the time of my surgery. I'm a very slow loser. It took me a year to get serious with myself in order to start losing weight. I had to take a hard look at my eating habits even with the band.

I will be on a trip this Thursday and not be back until the following Wednesday. Please let me know how you are doing... and good luck to you. You will be fine.

Terry

Maybe they will give me a pre-op diet this Wednesday at my pre-op meeting. Even if they don't I will do it myself, just to get in the groove. 11679.giff?id=11679 The hardest will be chewing slow and not drinking with my meal. how long did it take to get use to that.

Enjoy your trip, I will keep you posted.

Carol--

Good luck. Keep us posted. At my hospital support group they give oyster forks/cocktail forks to group members when they get there banding dates. I thought it was a great idea and went out and bought myself a set of sterling sliver ones. They are pretty and I use 1 every time I eat. It REALLY slows me down. Someone else suggested using chop sticks.

If you're interested in getting a set of nice sterling or silverplate forks --you can get some decent prices on Ebay. I went all out and bought a set of very nice sterling silver 8 oyster forks for about $80 but they have others for significantly less. I'm also thinking of picking up some demitasse spoons to match.

36_22_15.gif Hi Terry,

I'm doing good. Had surgery Monday and had to stay over night due to my insurance, glad I did cause my breathing was a little heavy so they gave me a few breathing treatments. But, 4:30am Tues I was up and walking around and they let me go at 9am.

I've been a little uncomfrortable, exausted so it's hard to sleep7_11_116.gif thru the night. No pain unless I turn the wrong way, doing ok on just tylenol and motrin. And I can't forget the gas-x. The gas and the port area is the worst. I have post op appt. Monday. So 3 weeks of full liquids(pudding-cream of wheat-jello-apple sauce-broth ect.) then on to regular food. 36_1_34.gif

How are you doing, how was your trip? Keep me posted.

Hi Carol,

It sounds like you are doing well. I was the same as you right after surgery. Very tired and lots of gas pains. The first week is the worst. I ended up not being able to make the trip to see my Mom after all. I came down with the flue. It was just as well....one of her employee's lost their Mother so she ended up having to work in her place. Then she got sick herself. We are now planing on getting together in June sometime.

Glad to here you are doing well,

Terry

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
