I've got issues....

Recommended Posts

On Saturday we had Outback, I had chicken and veggies, and a few cheese fries. Well everything was under control. Then I don't know what happened, I was like an eating machine. Needless to say, I was in serious pain in the middle of the night. I vomited a few times, and was very nauseated and sore. Oh, and my urine was way way dark ( I know tmi). I called my dr. office and they told me that what I was feeling was normal and to go back to liquids and work my way back up. I guess I'm really in a mental struggle right now between old habits and my new teacher (the band). I have often felt I am a control freak and the one thing I would let go on is food, does that make sense? Anyhow, now I think I am not able to tolerate acidic things like my crystal light. Hopefully this won't last long. I do feel ok, but I really screwed up, and I will not let this happen again.

I've done it probably two or three times, its not been as nasty as your experience, but I've just known I should stop and just kept eating.

It is SO uncomfortable. It really ruins the experience. No PB, but only because I just cant PB easily, if I was someone that could decide that needs to come up and do it, I surely would have. But for me, it takes hours, and I cant "make" myself do it. I have to suffer the pain which is sometimes worse I think.

Two times was on caesar salad of all things. I love caesar salad. I just didnt want to stop eating. And the third time was recently, DH and I had an unexpected afternoon together sans kids, we took off for a drive to a farm in the nearby countryside for a devonshire tea. I know that scones are danger for me, they are really hard to eat. I know that half of one is my limit. So why did I eat a whole one? I think I wanted the jam and cream, I should have just licked the little bowls, lol.

Oh that sounds horrible. It is really hard to stop eating when you know you should. Its the downside of restriction. Your brain is saying "NO not yet!" but your stomach is saying "NO MORE"

The brain-stomach-band relationship is too new for me to trust myself at a restaurant yet! For now, I continue to brownbag lunch and have carefully measured, slowly consumed suppers under the watchful, but non-judgemental, eyes of DH. I know I will have to 'get out' and resume normal living including dinners out etc, but as I don't yet trust myself not to open wide and vacuum everything is sight, I will take it slowly.

Jacqui, how long did it take for it to pass. Its Tuesday, I'm still nauseated and sore. I have another call in to my dr. but they haven't called back yet.

Ok, since I last posted, I got bloodwork done and have seen my doctor. It is not a lap band issue. I had my gall bladder taken out at the same time and my surgeon thinks that there is a stone still in there somewhere, because my liver enzymes came back high (reason for the dark urine). So he wants me to go have a scope to check all the ducts, and if there is a stone it can be pulled out tomorrow. I was soo scared that it was the band!!! I can deal with the gall bladder thing, that can be fixed but I was so worried, I am definately going to treat it better though.

Wow Val, sorry about all the trouble you've been having! What did the doctor find when he ran the tests?

I had the ERCP done on Friday afternoon with a gastro and I guess my surgeon popped in for my test. All they found was some sludge in my bile ducts. They think when I was having all the pain, it was like a gall bladder attack, and a stone may have passed then. So it was all good news. I am feeling fine, except a little itchy, which I guess that happens when you are jaundice, the bile salts cause itching. They said that should be gone by then end of the weekend.

I'm so glad you are feeling better! You make "sludge in the bile ducts" sound like no big deal. You must be tough as nails!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
