Regarding pain on the day of surgery

Recommended Posts

I was banded 9 hours ago and I have pain that goes all the way through to my back. It feels like gas pain but my doctor did not address what to do about gas pains. Pain meds do not help that much. Did anybody else experience this?

Gas-X works for some...I am 9 days post-op and they lasted for 5 days...I was at my parents' house the first 2 days...I had my dad burp me:)) like a baby:)...sometimes that worked.

Gas-X may help with intestinal gas, but it won't do much for the gas outside, which is what surgical gas really is (they blow you up like you're preggo to make it easier to see/move, kinda).

Some people find that moving around helps, or warm/hot showers as allowed. Really it's just a waiting game in most cases.

I am 9 days post op and STILL have quite a bit of gas pain! Not able to burp AT ALL, well a couple times, but that's all, if I could I could get rid of alot of it....everyone tells me after the band you will ALWAYS have problems and pain when trying to burp...UGGGGG

i was banded last week.. and i don't find that ANYTHING helps the gas pain. i tried heat packs, gasx, walking around alot... nothing! a good ole' back rub from mom was the best. the pain finally went away today, day 6. just bear with it.. it'll go away.

I found that the downward dog yoga position helped. Due to the fact that I'm obese I had to modify it a bit by putting my hands on a foot stool instead of the floor, but it seemed to encourage the gas to move.

I got a lot of relief from a heating pad and walking--especially with my arms in the air or making wide circles with my arms. I also found comfort with hot tea. Walk, walk, walk!!! Best advice ever though!!!

Absolutely! Alternate using ice packs and a heating pad throughout the day. A small amount of an anti-inflammatory is ok. Gas-X may help. Also, as i found out, one or more of the sutures placed could be near enough to a nerve to aggrevate it, this too will resolve if it is the case. Time, rest, and patience are the answers right now!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
