What Kind Of Vitamins/calcium Do You Take?

Recommended Posts

hi everyone...just trying to prepare ahead of time...i was wondering if anyone takes liquid vitamins out there and if so, how gross do they taste?

i know i wont be able to take the regular tablets anymore once banded, and yet i cant tolerate chewables (gag )...i bought some Centrum liquid from cvs.com but havent tried it yet...not sure how gross it will be.

also...is anyone out there taking citracal Creamy Bites for Calcium? are they gross and do you know of a cheap place to get them?

do your doctors prescribe Vitamins for you or are you responsible to buy them OTC?

thanks everyone for your anticipated advise :frown:

Right now chewable prenantals, but when I'm not PG I take Centrum chewables. The prenatals are Rx, but the daily Vitamins I buy OTC.

I've tried liquid vitamins and didn't care for them. The chewable centrums aren't like desert, but who cares, it's 4 seconds of my day.

For Calcium either chewable Caltrate (I think it's called) or the ones that are like little chocolates, or Tums if that's what I have handy. Or an extra glass of milk or soy that day.

Outside of these I take ppotassium as needed, a liquid purified fish oil Omega-3 supplement, and folic acid (PG).

I take viactiv chews for both Calcium and for a Multivitamin. The calcium is GOOD but the Multivitamin is just okay. I don't gag when I take it anyway.

(I can also take my regular big honkin' multivitamin without any problem. I expect that to change if I ever achieve actual restriction though.)

I currently take a multivitamin, a B12, a folic acid, a weekly Vitamin D and an Iron. I met with the nutritionist today and she told me post-surgery I will take no Vitamins for 2 weeks. After that I will replace the multivitamin with a chewable but will continue to take all the others. She said as long as the pill is smaller than a dime in all directions it can be taken without breaking it or crushing it.

I have Bariatric Advantage ones that I had to order through my surgeon. They actually taste pretty good (they gave me free samples to try first from the office. I actually still have some if you want to try 'em).

I have this multivitamin: Bariatric Advantage - Bariatric Advantage VitaBand chewable Multivitamin - Watermelon (180ct)

and this Calcium one:

Bariatric Advantage - Bariatric Advantage 400mg calcium citrate Lozenges w/ Vitamin D - Wild Cherry (180 count)

The website has a deal where you don't have to pay for shipping if you do an automatic drop ship for refills on the Vitamins. I've not started taking them yet, though considering how paltry the 'food' is on this pre-op diet, I'm thinking I should probably start...

ETA - I also just started taking the Biotin 2500 from GNC.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
