Okay...so I had the Band put in several days ago..still on Clear Liquids, now I'm wondering if I made the right decision. Let me put this out in front now...I am a "murphy's law" believer in whatever can go wrong will go wrong...I'm now worried about long term issues with the Band...If I take it out will my stomach go back to its original shape? I work in a job that requires much physical labor, how will this affect it? worry worry worry

Positive thinking may help your situation. Read about the success stories on this site, there are hundreds of them.

As far as the heavy lifting goes, your doctor probably told you about heavy lifting during recovery period. If not, call their office and ask because you don't want to hurt the positioning of your band.

Good luck, and try to think positive. If you stick to the bandster rules and get some exercise you'll have some wonderful things happen in the next year, like I did.

Take care.

I was there....I was so depressed and thought I had done the wrong thing...did I jump on the surgery (although I researched it and talked to my doctor for over 3 years about it), I cried, I wanted it to be undone, but thanks to this site, I found out that I was not alone and that my feelings were normal. I gained encouragement to stick it out and to trust that I had done the right thing. This Friday marks my 3 weeks and I feel great. I am eating mushies right now and this is a hard stage for me..I thought I would be so excited to finally eat something other than a shake, but to me this is hard to try to get in enough Protein so that I am not hungry. I never thought I would say this, but I miss the convenience of my shakes ( I had great tasting protein shakes...I found a GREAT brand...it was like drinking a milkshake) You did the right thing...I have lost 11 lbs and I am so excited...Hang in there...You will do fine!

Worrying won't get us anywhere, so why worry, think positive. You got this far and you will make it work  I had the dry heaves after my surgery the whole day I was in the hospital during my overnight stay. I was worrying up a storm and my Dr. just said with a smile, I don't want you to worry, I want you to just relax and concentrate on recovering. So, I take his good advice and cross each bridge as I come to it, that's all we can really do. The hard part is over so hang in there!!!! If you continue to have your doubts you should talk this over with someone like your psychologist. When I got my mental health eval, he said to definately come see him again if I feel I needed it, because some people do get depressed after surgery. I'll finally be at ease next week when I go for my bariam swallow which will give us a baseline for my band, then I will see if my vomiting disturbed the band. The latest way to avoid band slippage is that the Dr. secures the stomach around the band with a few stitches to hold it in place during the critical time of healing.

I think it was on this site (can't find it right now) where they have a video posted of the entire surgery, 59 min long, excellent to view this!

Sorry so long winded here, lol. Good luck to you!

Edit: here's the link if you want to watch the surgery video:

Drod (and everyone else who is reading!)

First of all, do not worry. While you may be a Murphy's Law type, I am a type that believes God or Karma or just good luck will always provide. There have been many times when I was broke, then an unexpected check rebate from escrow would show up, or just when I was getting sad, a great friend would fly into town for a surprise visit...everything will be ok with your lap band. I was banded 3/19/08 by a GREAT surgeon, and I had a very rough recovery, vomiting, nausea, lots more pain than his other patients, etc. However, I still would do this over. Despite the hunger, the clear liquid diet, the pain, meds, etc. Almost 100% of the bandsters i spoke to had the same experiences, in that the first 2-7 days after surgery, we all have that "OMG, what did I do to myself?!?" moment. After the swelling, gas, stiffness, general icky feelings pass, you will feel wonderful. I used to hate people in diet commercials or ads that would proclaim how great they feel and how much energy they have now, but I have become one of those people. I bounce around and i've only lost 13 lbs!

Please have faith and I encourage you to visit the chat room (click on the CHAT tab at the top/middle of the home page). People are amazingly supportive and helpful. good luck and keep me posted!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
