Tightness in my chest when I drink too fast..

Recommended Posts

Hello, I was banded on April 3rd and I am on a liquid diet. At first I had to sip my Water very slowly. Now I feel like I don't have to sip it. However, when I drink the water too fast, I get this tightness in my chest. It feels like indigestion. It is a little pain between my throat and the top part of my stomach and then it subsides when I burp. Does anyone else get this feeling? If this is how it feels when food gets stuck, I am going to make sure I chew my food until it disappears in my mouth!!!

I would say you need to continue to drink more slowly until that feeling goes away. You probably have post op swelling around the band.

Thank you all very much for your responses. You are absolutely right. I am drinking slowly and no pain. Wow...I did not know what was happening and at least now I know to take it slow. My doctor told me that I would feel some restriction (he filled me with 4cc's during surgery + the swelling) and now I know what he means. I am happy that I learned this early on. Thanks again.
