Well, how did we all do?? My day was pretty smooth sailing. My surgeon has most patients spend the night but I jumped some hoops and made it home by about 6. Still just sipping Water but it's going well. My port site has quite a bit of pain but as long as I medicate on schedule, it seems to keep it under control. Can't wait to here how everyone is doing!

Hey Peraly, glad you made out so well!!! Good for you!!!

I, on the other hand, did not have such a smooth sailing time.

The whole preop stuff leading up to the OR went fine. Coming off anesthstesia, I was a mess. Vomiting in my "sleep", being half conscious while they suctioned me and I was still on the vent. Not pleasant.

I got to my room at about 1230 and I was in excrutiating pain and dry heaving, my nurse did not give me ay meds for 5 hours!!! I could be hypercritical because I'm an ocology nurse, but holy hell...no post-op patient should have to wait 5 hours for pain relief. She kept telling me she couldn't get it out of the Pyxis. Well, I happen to know you can override the Pyxis for pain and nausea medicine. I kept dry-heaving and she said "Oh stop that! We don't want your badn to slip, it's brand new!" Wel F'ing DUH!!!!!

I was mad. Still am. I am usually not a wuss about pain, I took motrin after my two c-sections, but this is really kicking my butt. I'm in a ton of pain, still naseous. I've been home for about an hour and a half.

I hope eveyone has done better than me. Right this moment, I' m at the point where I'm going, WTF as I thinking? Owwwwwwwwwww.

Its really weird to see how it affects everyone differently.

Mine was smooth sailing and I still can't believe it's done!

The biggest problem they had was getting my IV in.. They had to try 5 times before getting it. I made sure to let them know I get sick if I am put under so they said they gave me 3 anti nausea meds thank god. I woke right up and didnt feel a thing so I didn't think they did it till I tried to move. I haven't been taking the loritab they sent me home with... 3 bottles of it to be extact sheesh. I have taken tylenol. The only discomfort I have now is bending down, getting in and out of my bed cause its high... really its just tight on my incision area. the doc gave me stitches inside and glue on exterior. I was told I was fitted with the 10cc band.

I have been walking around the house alot since I came home yesterday. I am going to get dressed and try to walk around the block tonight.

i had me surgery today at7:30am and made it home about 3. i feel really good compared to what i thought i would be. i've walked around the house and spent 10 min on the treadmill. i wanted to make sure i moved around because i'm told that's the answer to avoiding gas pain, i've been burping quite a bit.the only pain i've felt is my shoulder. i took a 1 hr nap and woke up feeling good. i too have some discomfort getting in/out of the car and bed. if its been almost 12 hrs since surgery and i haven't needed ANY pain med, my experience has been just fine!!:crying:

I am just floored that some of you went home the same day!! Makes me feel like my surgeon did something wrong.

How many incisions do you all have?

I have 4 trochars and then the incision for the port. My port is about 2 inces higher than my belly button and 4-5 inches to my left. It seems like a pretty good place. I think I did too much this afternoon because I got really sore but since taking my meds and resting awhile, I feel much better.

Mamma - My suregon really prefers that you stay. I had to beg and plead a little(and use the fact that I am a nurse and my hubby is a physician. The nurses and respiratory people were all like "Really, you're going home already?!" I just figured I'd rest better in my own bed with my family around me. All I had to to do be released was drink 4oz of Water within an hour and not puke, walk 3 laps around my hospital unit, and my pain had to be under control. It worked out and I got to go home!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
