Really dumb question, but I was overthinking.......

Recommended Posts

:confused:When you lose weight, where does it go? I've never really lost a significant amount of weight besides like 1 or 2 lbs, so I was just thinking. Let's say 3 years from now, I'll be at my goal weight, well, where did all that weight go? Dumb question I know, but I think my brain is fried for the day....

Lol, I have no idea. Maybe one of our resident nurses can help answer this one for us?

Where does it go....well I am thinking that fat...is energy...when you burn energy you give off waste products...(like exhaust from a car)...human waste products are CO2, Water (when exhaling) urine, poo, sweat, and heat...

Also gas...you know how they say the average person expells gas x amount of times a day....Calories are like KAL in chemistry...you burn them for energy...fat is stored energy...it is what is burned to even keep up your body temperature...when you have a fever...you burn even more calories...the waste products of the fat then go into the blood stream and them get absorbed into the gut and we "flush" it out in our waste products....

Watch a wooden log burn in the fire...some is gas, flame, heat, some is smoke or ash...that is its waste product...make sense?

No question is dumb!

Personally, I'd like to think when my fat is gone it moves to someone I don't like....like Paris Hilton.

I lOVE the question and the answers so far.

I was once part of a weight loss program and lost 30 or so pounds and the clinic made me pick up an equivalent bag of flour and I remember thinking, as I heaved it up - where did the weight go, and if I can barely lift this, why don't I feel that much different for not having to lug this much around with me anymore? :frown:

I certainly can tell the difference now, but I still have the question - where did it go and how do I make sure that it doesn't come back!

Kind of like my question - if the spray butter topping doesn't have any calories or any fat for a "portion size" of 5 sprays, when I spray for the 6th time, does that mean I am up to 100 calories? I read somewhere (I think it was hungrygirl.com), that if you use 20 sprays, then you are up to 20 calories - not a lot, but not zero either!)

Actually when you burn fat it comes out in your urine. just think about when it seems like you have to pee and you really havent drank that much to to to the restroom as much as you have been going...And actually I learned this from the oprah show... when she dragged that wagon of fat out when she lost all of that weight on the liquid diet... she was like where did it go... and thats when the Dr. explained it to her...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
