Agony & Disgusting

Hi all, Im 5 weeks post op and following my Doctors Orders. Im now on solids but I thought I was being very clever today and tried Lamb! Well how stupid was I.

Must of eaten too quickly as 10 mins later I had the most tremendous pain in my chest.Felt like a ball and I could feel it moving up & down. Then the slime started before the Hiccups. No way was it going down but decided to come back up! This circle continued about 12 times before I finally felt the pain disappear.

I guess this must be my first PB but I never expected it to be so painful? Does the pain differ depending on what has caused the PB?

Is it normal for a PB to last about an hour???

Thanks

Well, Kaz, congratulations. You have been initiated into the world of the mighty PB. I don't know how long they usually last; I think my longest one was almost an hour, too, but usually mine are over in a few minutes.

Lots of us have trouble with meats, especially if they're dry. And we all have certain foods that just don't work, no matter how much we chew. For some of us, it's meat; lots of people can't handle bread; and eggs are tricky for many too.

I'll leave the medical analysis to the professionals. Meanwhile, know that what you experienced was, alas, normal. May this be your only PB!

Kaz, you should do a day or two of only liquids following a pb episode. This gives your esophagus time to calm down and quit repeating the trauma. Also, solid food bites should be about the size of the eraser on the end of a pencil (very tiny) and chewed to bits before swallowing. Take your time, little bites, and chew, chew, chew before swallowing. That's a nasty experience, isn't it?

SOunds like it is official ..sounds like a PB to me.

For me, some of my PB's have lasted longer then others, it depends on what I had eaten. Sometimes I have had more pain the other times. Each one has been different, I have had 5 official PB's in 1 year. I have learend though to chew like crazy and eat like a snail, I have not PBed in a while now, cant say I never will again but I am more aware now when I eat and how I eat. Eating and talking doesnt work for me, eating and driving doesnt work for me. You will find what foods work best for you and what situations work best for you. Good Luck :D

This is what I yearn for- To learn what La madam has learned. If I could do this without surgery, oh... how happy & thin I would be. Thank goodness for the band the the lessons it teaches us!

I had my 1st PB today, in the car!!! YUK, it was a cooked baby carrot, I thought I chewed it enough, I was driving my daughter and thought oh, crap, so this is what it feels like!!! It was over in a matter of 15 minutes, (i timed it), and it did come up.

Live and Learn!!

Ok so what are you suppose to do carry barf bags with you at all times? (not banded yet)

Some never go anywhere without a plastic bag/barf bag somewhere nearby. In fact, you aren't SUPPOSED to be PBing all that often. It's not good for your band and certainly not good for your esophagus, however, it DOES happen. More to some than others, so it doesn't hurt to be prepared. You never know where it's going to happen.

It's when a food item won't go through the band. I think the slime comes from your body trying to make the food go down.

I have started carrying a styrofoam cup in the car, just in case, funny thing, my kids are now used to me having to pb every now and then, my nine year old says, "ate too much, huh?" She is too funny.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
