How long on stage 3?., hungry..Yikes!

Recommended Posts

Hi All and Happy Holiday.

I can't believe it has been over 1 week since my surgery. As I have shared I was so uncomfortable after surgery, I was like..."What did I do", but I have to say every day got better. I'm so happy I can't believe it, I have more energy, I cleaned out my clothes closet, started going up and down the basement stairs more then twice in one day, my pants are already loose.

When I first came home from the hospital I had no desire to eat (full liquids that is) for so long. I couldn't smell food, the thought of it made me sick, but towards the end of this week I really started to feel hungry, the thought of another Protein or Soup meal just doesn't seem to cut it!

I have been on full liquids since 2 days after surgery and I have to say I'm just starting to feel hungry. I see my surgeon in a few days (Wednesday) to remove the stiches and can't wait, I'm ready to move to Stage 4.

How long did all of you stay on Full Liquids (Stage 3) before moving to Stage 4;baby food/mushy's,

Hi Corgi, I was on Clear Liquids for 3 days, and I'll be on full liquids for 2 weeks. I don't get to start mushies until next Saturday. Of course, this has given me the opportunity and excuse to remember and use all my mad Soup skillz. (my son isn't a soup eater)

Corgi I was only on clear liquids for 3 days after surgery then I was on full liquids the rest of the week. I started on mushy's yesterday and am doing good so far with everything I have tried.I 'm just taking small bites and making sure that everything is very small and mashed good. No problems yet. This was what my dr. told me to do but please everyone follow your Dr's rules !!!

Corgi, each doctor has his own insturctions. Mine wanted a week of each... a week of clear liquids, a week of full liquids, a week of mushy stuff. The 4th week is usually the hardest - you become VERY hungry by then. :D

Good luck.

BTW, How's the weight loss?

I was on 1 week of clears liquids, 2 weeks of full liquids and then started slowly on regular food. My doc and nutritionist wanted me to be wary of the mushies as it's so easy for people like me to fall back on them and that can make my weight loss journey tougher. Each doctor is very different and you need to follow YOUR DOCTOR'S instructions.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
