ConnieD27 0 Posted April 7, 2008 Hello all. I am looking for a really good work out DVD. I'm a 27 yr old full time working mom to 2 little kids. I am all for getting up early and working out, but have not been able to find a DVD that 1)holds my interest (IE- doesn't make me feel like a 60 yr old sweatin' to the oldies) and 2) is challenging, but doesn't leave me unable to walk for 3 days! I was banded on 12/12/07. Starting weight was 296 lbs. I am now at 244 lbs with minimal excersize...but I am starting to plateau! Yes, I am due for a fill in a couple of weeks, but I have GOT to get my body moving more!! Has anyone tried "Hip Hop Abs" or "Turbo Jam" OR, what the heck do you use?? I prefer something a cardio-dance type of workout, but have NO idea which one to pick! Thank you! Connie
jetti 2 Posted April 7, 2008 Connie I would definitely suggest some sort of cardio/dance video. maybe hip hop or latin. I do a latin dance class at my gym and you really use your entire body and its FUN!!! I know I have seen various dance videos in target or Walmart so they should be pretty easy to find. If there are to many choices just grab a few that you would be interested in and randomly pick one and if you enjoy it then maybe once a week or every 2 weeks you can go back and grab another one. if you have digital cable there may also be some sort of dance workout available through that and you can test out what kind of workout you want to try. gilliebean 1 Posted April 7, 2008 hi i am very much in the same boat as you. I have these workout dvd's that you would think was for old people but to start with those and work your way up to something more up beat i think is good. It call Walk away the pounds and its a great place to start i also have the jillian michaels dvd's but they are a little to advanced for me at the moment but when i get there i will be rockin it cause they are pretty good and we all know how she likes to kick butt. So anyway there are my suggestions. I also just purchased a yoga for beginers dvd in the hopes it would help me with my streches.
GreenChrysalis 1 Posted April 7, 2008 Hi Connie, I'm a lot like you in that I need variety and fun in my exercise or I'm not likely to stick with it. I use a couple of different games/DVDs: 1) Dance Dance Revolution. If you already have a Playstation or XBox you can find used versions of this as well as the game pad. I feel very silly but it is a lot of fun and I find myself doing it longer because I want to beat my previous score on a song. Can be hard on the knees though so I don't do it all of the time. There's also a game (can't remember the name of it) that will work with your own CDs to come up with dance routines. 2) Walk Away the Pounds DVD (there are several of them, I have the basic 1 and 2 mile). I like this because it's low impact and goes by quickly; you can do one mile plus stretching in 20 minutes or two miles in 30 minutes. It also uses weights, so you're not just walking -- there's a lot of arm movement. The people on the DVD are a variety of ages, so it's not all "old people." 3) Bellydance Core Conditioning DVD. A lot of fun but also challenging. I can't do all of it yet, but I can do a lot of it and still get a good workout. 4) I am a big fan of Dancing With the Stars, so I got their Cardio Dance DVD. It has a warmup and cooldown as well as five different dances of increasing intensity. I love this! My favorite is the samba. You can program it for how much you want to do. I am thinking about getting more dance workout DVDs because I really enjoy it, so I'm looking forward to seeing others' recommendations.
ConnieD27 0 Posted April 7, 2008 Thank you! It's nice to know that I'm not the only one facing this! I will try Target or Walmart and see what they have available. Thanks again, Connie
holly11 1 Posted April 8, 2008 You might try Zumba. It is fun and not that hard. They also have Zumba classes at the Y so you might want to "try",I know it is hard, to visit if you have one around you and see if you like it before you buy. I have the set from when I went on one of my many diets and I tend to go back to it often. Hope this helps.
Kat817 19 Posted April 8, 2008 Our local library lends out many things besides books----DVD's among them, and they have a pretty good variety of work out DVD's. It would allow you to try one for a week or so, see if it holds interest or is in the right level of ability for you---without spending anything. They also lend books on CD. I listen to the books as I work out. I am a reader, and when I get hooked on a book, I want to finish it. Listening to them on CD (or I have loaded some onto our Ipod) keeps me on the elliptical just a bit longer, or keeps me out walking for another 15 minutes or so. Maybe you could listen and take a walk during your lunch break---get some moving in then..... Good Luck, and congrats on the great beginning!! Kat
