One month and 12 pounds down - 5 months to go!

Recommended Posts

Well, I started my 6 month Dr. supervised weight loss program a month ago - - went in for weigh in and lost 12 pounds. Dr. is happy and says this is just what the insurance co wants to see - he is not worried that I will lose too much to be approved.

My BMI was 42 - -now, it obviously is less - - I am worried if I go below 40 I won't be approved.

I totally understand your feelings, I would be too. But remember that the doctor deals with this all the time and if he says it will be okay then don't worry. You will be fine. Congrats on the 12 lbs. That is a great accomplisment.

Congrats on your first month's weight loss. I wouldn't worry about getting below 40BMI and being approved. I'm in the same situation and believe my surgeon when he tells me to continue to lose. He's been doing this a long time. Good luck. The time goes by faster than you think it will.

I was told they use your BMI from your original weight, before you started losing on the 6-mo diet. You are doing great!

I have my 6th month visit next week and I can't believe how quickly it has gone by. I know it seems like a long time but it really will go fast. Great job on losing so much!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
