I am confused can I have oatmeal for Breakfast a salad for lunch then a normal meal at dinner? I have to be at work at 6 in the morning so I need something on the run any helpful hints and in between can I have a Protein Shake because my dr. said no snacking in between

I always have a Protein Shake for breakfast because I'm always in a hurry in the morning and never really hungry. I eat deli meat, a veggie and some kind of starch for lunch and meat or fish, veggie and starch for dinner. I usually eat Peanut Butter and fruit for an afternoon snack. It probably isn't enough veggies but it's hard to get a lot of veggies in when you only eat 1/2 cup at a time. I'm not sure it is the correct way to eat but it is working for me.

Yay! I know you are excited about moving to solids. I don't see any reason why you can't have oatmeal for breakfast. I do a shake most of the time because I am usually tighter in the mornings. If you are able to eat solids in the morning, that's great. They will keep you fuller longer. Although protein is very important, I don't see a problem with having the oatmeal for breakfast. Oatmeal generally stays with me for a good while.

There are sooo many different opinions from doctors. My doc suggests 3 meals a day, no Snacks. He also suggest having protein first, then a veggie, then a piece of fruit and then bread if there's room. I don't always go strictly by that plan. Some days I have 4-5 very small meals. It's important for you to find out what works best for you. I've definitely listened to my doctors suggestions but I don't always follow their rules to a T. The band has a mind of it's own sometimes, so I never know from day to day what to expect. Some days I'm fine going without a snack, other days I need one. Some days I can eat beef roast, other days I have a hard time. Some days you may find it hard to eat solid protein, especially after you get some restriction. Just make sure you chew really good and take it slow. Good luck to you!

wow my nut wants me eating 6 meals a day, and actually wrote out sample menus for me, I can have oatmeal or cream of wheat or grits or something in the mornings, she wants me to stay away from the Protein Shakes for breakfast due to liquid calories, but says if i am tight in the morning, I can. then I have a small snack, then lunch, then small snack, then dinner, then a Protein supplement before bed like nectar or something that has under 100 calories but lots of protein. my goal will be 1000-1200 calories a day no more than 1 cup of food at a meal and 70-75 grams of protein.

I've become a big fan of the South Beach meals. I often eat a crispy meal bar for breakfast - 18g protien, they make little lunchables that are usually 20-24g Protein and then I have lean protien and veggies for dinner.< /p>

I know it's a lot of convenience foods, but I commute to work and have very little time to prepare meals.

Good luck to you.

Always eat Protein first, then green veggies and carbs last, only if you have room. I just don't even put the carbs on my plate. If I'm not looking at it, I'm not tempted to tell myself I'm not full.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
