Banded almost 2 weeks - worried....

Recommended Posts

I have been lurking for some time, but now I am really concerned and I have a question.

I have lost ~ 8 pounds since banding and 23 since pre-op. However, over the past four days, I am stuck at the same weight. Nothing seems to move the scales. I am worried and frustrated. Did I do the right thing? Is this going to work for me? Every morning, I weigh the same. During the first week post-op, I saw the scales move daily. I am getting the >75 g protien and consuming less than 600-800 calories per day. I have felt rough, so the exercise has been limited. I know that is one cause, but with such a restrictd caloric intake, what is happening? I saw Dr. Davis on Thursday and everything is healing nicely. My first fill is scheduled for 05/08/08. Right now, I am on purees and mushies.

Can anybody give me some input or encouragement that the scales will eventually move?

Thanks,

Amy:confused:

The first weeks (till first fill) of banding - are just for healing. Don't sweat the pounds not dropping.

Talk to your doctor -- mine had me add more Protein - and / or more calories when I was in similiar situations (after the healing phase).

I go through cycles -- I lose for a week then remain stable for weeks - then lose for a week - then stable....

But when I reamin stable -- I am losing inches -- don't forget to take measurements.

You know i must say you are not eating enough u need to add 1 or 2 more shakes to your daily intake... see your body goes into a platu state when u consume the same amt of calories for too long.. You need to shock your body and no doubt if u add an additional 300-400 calories u will see the scale come down.. and remember u have to make sure that you are drinking enough Water....***Also did u watch the biggest looser when jillian snapped on one of the girls on her team because she had only lost 1lb at the weigh in and jillian asked her what had she been eating.. and she said that she had only been consuming about 600-800 calories per day and she was like oh my god. noooooo..

Also Drink MILK......

Try not to step on the scales every day. I know that is hard but your weight can flucuate from day to day. Last week I didn't lose any pounds but when I check the body fat calculator on my weekly weigh in at Curves, I had lost three pounds of body fat. Muscle weighs more than fat. Your body may just be adjusting to the weight you have already lost. Did you measure before you started your journey. I'll bet you have lost inches.

Let yourself heal! Drink plenty of Water, walk when you can, follow the food plan your doctor has given you and look for the NSV's that are coming your way. One of these days you will step on the scales and suddenly lots of pounds will be gone.

When I started mushie foods the scale stopped moving for a few days. After a few days my body got used to the new foods and started losing again. Hang in there! You are doing fine.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
