Question for any and all?

When we were leaving the hospital the nurse told my mom that I might have some pain under my shoulders as air gets trapped inside the tissues during surgery. Has anyone else had this and how long does it last?

Just curious...

Thanks!

Anamarie

I was banded on April 3rd and today is the first day that I've not had the pain in my neck and shoulder. Hang in there and take your pain meds. You'll feel better soon.

they pumped gas into your stomach to inflate it for more working room as they perform the procedure. It takes a few days to go away. Walk as much as you can and some say a heating pad is helpful.

It is normal.

I had my surgery on April 1 and I'm still having some strong, sporadic gas pains. I have not taken anything for it and I probably should be walking more, but it has been a little better each day.

Cheers!

heyy guys. i was also banded on april 3rd, and the gas pain is getting better. it was really bad the first two days but walking around and gas x has helped alot! even try taking deep breaths.. it hurts but it will move the gas pain around so its not just hovering around your belly. im having more trouble with trying to get anything down. it feels like EVERYTHING.. meds, shakes and soup.. gets stuck in my chest. its weird.. im going to call my dr. in the morning. hope your gas pain goes away soon!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
