katie78 0 Posted April 6, 2008 How soon can one have a drink or two after surgery? I'm know I'll ask my doc this and follow his instruxtions, but I was just wondering how long it was until you had let's say a margarita?

shortgal 5 Posted April 6, 2008 I don;t drink margaritas, my drink of choice is generally wine. I waited almost 3 months before indulging. I wanted to continue to lose weight and I just didn't need the extra "empty" calories of liquor. Now four 1/2 months post op, I've had a few more glasses at dinner with friends, but still limit my intake. I would think at least four to six weeks post op to begin drinking is reasonable but your surgeon will let you know. Then i would drink it slow, make it last and alternate sips with a glass of Water.< /p>

I'm know I'll ask my doc this and follow his instruxtions, but I was just wondering how long it was until you had let's say a margarita? I'll be asking my surgeon that very question during our follow up meeting later this week. I'm in the wine business and while I can do these two weeks without drinking wine, eventually I intend to get back to my average 1 glass per day. My doctor knows this about me and the only concern was the number of calories I would be comsuming in wine. I'll have to adjust for this because I'm not giving up wine! MicheleK 8 Posted April 7, 2008 I have a friend that's been banded for 4 years and still can't drink a margarita because of the acid from the lime juice. She DOES drink plenty of white russians! (she says the cream helps it go down easier w/o heartburn) lol I'm not much of a drinker in recent years, but I do like the occasional glass of wine. I plan to continue enjoying it in moderation once my doc says it's okay.
