How soon can one have a drink or two after surgery? I'm know I'll ask my doc this and follow his instruxtions, but I was just wondering how long it was until you had let's say a margarita?

I don;t drink margaritas, my drink of choice is generally wine. I waited almost 3 months before indulging. I wanted to continue to lose weight and I just didn't need the extra "empty" calories of liquor. Now four 1/2 months post op, I've had a few more glasses at dinner with friends, but still limit my intake.

I would think at least four to six weeks post op to begin drinking is reasonable but your surgeon will let you know. Then i would drink it slow, make it last and alternate sips with a glass of Water.< /p>

I'll be asking my surgeon that very question during our follow up meeting later this week. I'm in the wine business and while I can do these two weeks without drinking wine, eventually I intend to get back to my average 1 glass per day. My doctor knows this about me and the only concern was the number of calories I would be comsuming in wine. I'll have to adjust for this because I'm not giving up wine!

I have a friend that's been banded for 4 years and still can't drink a margarita because of the acid from the lime juice. She DOES drink plenty of white russians! (she says the cream helps it go down easier w/o heartburn) lol

I'm not much of a drinker in recent years, but I do like the occasional glass of wine. I plan to continue enjoying it in moderation once my doc says it's okay.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
