San Fernando valley, Hollywood or West LA?

Recommended Posts

I would be interested in hearing from anyone in the valley, Hollywood, West LA, or any of the surrounding areas, about where you were banded, or if you're just starting the process, or even in the learning faze, as I am.

Thanks in advance.

Debbie

Hi Debbie,

My name is Tami. I was banded last year by Dr Carson Liu. I had my surgery in his LA office. My journey has been good and I don't have any complaints towards him as my doctor. I would recommend him highly!

Thank you Tami. I haven't seen very many people from this area and I am still researching.

Congratulations and may you have continued good health.

He's in Westwood area if you are interested in seeing him. He's been on TV advertisements lately for the "O-band centers". You can look online too. Good luck with your journey.

Hi! I live in the San Fernando Valley and I was banded on March 24th by Dr.David Davtyan. He has offices in Glendale and Beverly Hills. He is very professional and actually has the Lap Band himself so he knows exactly what we are feeling. I hope this information is useful to you. Good luck on your journey!

Thank you, very much. I saw something about Northridge having WLS, but I'd much rather check out places I know others have been. And the fact that your doctor has been banded is a plus. Thanks again!

Thank you French vanilla. I am going to see if insurance will approve me. And I'll check out Cedars Sinai, too. I think I'd like to go there.Or anywhere that I'm comfortable with the doctor, which is, I guess what we all want.

Good luck, and let me know how things go for you.

Hi everyone. I'm in the South Bay Area (Hermosa Beach). I just had my surgery on 3/31/08. My surgeon is Dr. Matthew Lublin and his office is in Santa Monica. I was referred to him by my HMO insurance. A couple of the people doing my pre-op tests and my nurse getting me ready for the surgery said that they'd heard good things about Dr. Lublin. My surgery was at the Surgery Center of Santa Monica on Wilshire Blvd. I've had 2 other surgeries (umbilical hernia repairs) at that facility and I really like all the nurses, etc. that I've encountered there. My surgery and recovery went pretty well. I had my surgery on a Monday and I stopped taking my pain meds that Wednesday. My incisions have healed up pretty fast. The only problem I really had was getting dizzy and feeling weak during the clear liquid phase post-surgery. I'm still having problem with some dizziness here and there, but it's getting better. I think my body is just not happy with the low calories I'm consuming. I've lost 26 pounds so far. I'm getting my first fill the May 13.

Sophie, congratulations on your weight loss. I read on another post of someone who has the same HMO as I do, and they went to Cedars-Sinai. I'll go anywhere I'm sent, I guess, though I've registered for a seminar at Northridge. I just want to get things started, and I guess I have to call my doctor again, and give her a gentle nudge. Thank you for posting. I'm glad to know there are so many doctors in our area that are recommended.

Hi all you Valley people! I'm having surgery on May 22nd in West Hills with Dr. Mark Paya. So far, everything has gone smoothly. Had my psychiatric visit last week, have my nutritionist visit this week and going to a seminar at West Hills Hospital I think on the 13th.

So far Dr. Paya's office has been terrific. Always there when I have a question (and I have a lot of them!).

Terri :wink2:

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
