Come in Bandster with Hypertension :)

Recommended Posts

Hi Ya'll

I plan on benig banded this summer ( I just met with a pysic.) and I know the band has helped many bandsters on LBT with Diabetes but I havent heard much about the band and High Blood Pressure. I was recently diagnosed with high blood pressure which is the main reason im going to do this.

So are you guys off your meds completely (if at all) or the very least reduce your dosages?

Thanks for your comments

Count me as one that's off meds. I too got banded because I develped hypertension (I also have arthritis). I check my BP weekly now and this week it was 127/60 and at my dr's appt it was 120/72 so yes, it will help you tremendously. Also make sure you include exercising. I walk a minimum of 5 days a week (fast paced 3 - 5 miles). I wish you well in your new lifestyle journey!

Hello -

This is my first post here. I'm scheduled for surgery on May 15th - I cannot wait! :)

I was originally diagnosed with HBP when I was 15, but I wasn't medicated until I was 22. Untreated I am 220/120 (stroke level). I'm 37 now and so sick and tired of taking blood pressure meds that I can't stand it another day! In total I take four different high blood pressure meds, plus I was diagnosed with Type II diabetes almost a year ago. The diabetes was the final straw. I can't take this much medication any more! :sigh:

My HBP and diabetes is throughout my family so my doctors have warned me that I may not see both of these issues completely gone from my life after I lose the weight, however they're hopeful that the HBP and diabetes will greatly reduce.

They said that for sure my diabetes will go into remission (I'm currently on 2000 mg of Metformin every day. If I hadn't signed up for the surgery, my doctor was going to start me on insulin as well :glare:.

My question is - since I'm on so much medication - is there a good way to monitor myself so I don't crash or over medicate as the weight is coming off?

EricaLyn: You should stay in close contact with your Endocrinologist. If you have to, fax your numbers to him so he can monitor and adjust the meds accordingly.

If you are like me, the goal is to be OFF the meds for good!!!!

EricLyn your numbers are really similar to mine. The only reason I am pursuing this surgery is to get off metformin and the 2 highblood pressure medicines im on right now. I am confident that with weight loss my numbers will improve ...Good luck everybody:smile2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
