Oregondaisy 2,021 Posted April 10, 2008 That's funny. I never even looked at the picture, just the words. Now that I have looked at the picture, it cracks me up.
amsderb 1 Posted April 10, 2008 Wow faithMD...I read all of the posts...thank you...great info and points to ponder... At the support meeting I went to, they said the guidlines had changed and some thought it was because people couldn't deprive themselves so they lessend the time on full liquids...I will most certainly ask my doc at my preop visit these questions... Thanks again
Southern Missy 1 Posted April 10, 2008 Let me just add... it's because of this VERY thread that I have decided that regardless of what my doctor says, I think at least 3-4 weeks of the liquid diet postop is essential to the longevity of my band. In the scheme of things, 3-4 weeks is worth it if it means I have less chance of a slip. Of course, it may also be what my MD orders but I have yet to go to my consultation (a couple more weeks to go) so I don't know yet. However, I will be including this discussion in my list of questions to him. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU to all you ladies for your words of wisdom. It would be so easy for you to read these posts and think "Poor idiots, hope they figure it out!". It takes someone special to take the time it takes to write out the important facts, the ins and outs, and just generally hold someone accountable by questioning why they would do things wrong when they know better. I'm so sorry that people had their feelings hurt but I would consider that more of a problem with accountability than being "badgered" and, unfortunately, it seems that everyone has a "don't speak up if you don't agree with me" philosophy. I have plenty of people in my life who tell me what I want to hear... I come here to hear what I NEED to hear. Thanks again! :huh2:

Thanks again That's exactly what my doctor said at support group last night. The rates of slips have increased (almost double) because people are not staying on the liquid diet long enough for the band to heal properly on the stomach. The stomach can't be moving while this healing is going on. When the stomach digests foods, it moves. I am GLAD I had such a strict doctor. The thought of losing my band is a very scary thought. jtorie 0 Posted April 10, 2008 :huh2: NO Honestly people are asking for PERMISSION !!! They are asking for permission to screw things up !! Not all but some newbies , all they have to hear is " SURE i did it you will be fine " And that is ALL The need to hear. So people coming on here saying that is DANGEROUS ! I dont get people paying money for surgery from a DOCTOR Then coming on a message board and asking MEDICAL ADVICE ?? CALL YOUR DOCTOR !!!! That's what we pay them for !!! Mindy I am not asking for permission, I think I have already screwed up... While my current habits are not as bad as in the past I have definetly not stuck to my Doctors diet plan. I don't know if I screwed up the band or not, but I can't seem to get back on plan... I have been extremely hard on my self and practically in tears all the time... I feel horrible knowing that I could have already screwed this whole surgery up. Today not even paying attention, I drove up to a drive thru and ordered what I used to order 2 5pc chicken nuggests and a baked potato... I was on auto pilot and ate like a Hoover vacuum... I felt extremely full (NOT SICK), and horrible... I know everyones advised is stick to the diet, you can do its only for a short time, no excuses yada yada (no disrespect). But Dammit I did it, I am not saying its okay... but I can't control it... I hadn't even realized I ate all of the food until it was gone... Its horrible I know, I've even been seeing a couple different counselors and psychiatrist... nothing is helping... It drives me insane to think I put all the time and pain into this surgery to maybe of screwed up before it had a chance to work. All these people are looking for is kind words, support... not permission... I am sharing my humiliating story with you because I know I am not the only one and when people say they never strayed from your diet THEY ARE LYING. I will talk to my doctor and tell him the truth and hopefully nothing bad has happened to the band.
amsderb 1 Posted April 10, 2008 jtori...thank you for your honesty....I encourage you to tell the doc and also, I'm not sure if you are keeping the food diary or a journal but try and see if there was an underlying reason you just went into auto pilot and ordered food...I am NOT trying to preach at you...we all do make the wrong choice at times... I know that FOREVER I have been told to plan plan plan out your food and sometimes that seems impossible...but if you know you have too may temptations by fast food...then maybe make a deal with yourself that you will NOT go to a drive through....If you have to eat a food on the run then predecide what that would be....like: My dh loved fast food and so we made a deal that if she is that hungry she should go to a subway type place or a grocery that makes custom ordered sandwiches...Even at some starbucks you can get the fruit and cheese plate or a small sandwich...toss out the bread... Anyway, dh has done great and now does not eat fast food of old and the good part is neither do I. I truely think they put addictive stuff into the oils in the fryers to keep people coming back... Hang in there and good luck! Please know, I am not trying to preach just trying to give some ideas...

Hastings 3 Posted April 10, 2008 I think, in many ways, this entire thread points to a need for a better way to identify those who will need some additional counseling to succeed. Perhaps some sort of training on eating consciously, etc. I hope everyone succeeds. :huh2:
