I am a diet coke girl and I miss it as well, but not too much. I have heard of some people letting the soda sit for a while so it is not so carbonated. You want to stay away from the carbonated stuff---it would be like shaking the soda can in your tummy.

How are you with coffee? maybe you can have that instead. It's not carbonated and you still get your caffein fix. Alot of people do well with that. I was scared to try it, but finally did, and thank God! I needed the caffein! I am a stay at home mem and work from home, so it's a big helper.

Hope that helps and I am so happy to hear your news about the band. 2 weeks and your in bandland. Get ready for a rough start, but hang in there it gets better, I promise.

I used to drink Pepsi all the time then I starting drinking less . Now its been about 2 years since I had soda I like room temp. Water now and if I go out I get water with a wedge of lemon in it . as for caffeine I drink coffee and tea both hot or iced with no sugar it took a bit of time but I am used to it now. try it and see what happens .

Chris, I was a HUGE diet coke head. Any time I had ever tried to stop in the past, it gave me massive headaches, as you have. I had to do 1 day pre-op without any diet coke and I had the biggest headache all day long. The minute I got my surgery, the nice drugs stopped the headache and it never came back. I haven't had a sip in a week and a half now and I don't miss it at all. I really thought I would, but I don't.

Whats funny is that right after banding -during my 2 weeks of liquids- my cola cravings disappeared! Even the *thought* of drinking a carbonated beverage was uncomfortable.

Oh sure, I still have a sip here and there of hubby's, but never had my own can/glass. Dont worry, youll most likely feel the same way... most of us do(maybe even ALL of us)!

I really miss my diet coke, but I just switched to ice tea with equal sugar. It has been five months from surgery and I still crave it once in a while. I just take a coulpe of sips of diet coke now and then and I feel o.k.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
