What in the world is falafle? I'm not a great cook but I consider myself to be okay at it. I've never heard of this and I am interested to know what it is.

I LOVE falafel.....it's a middle eastern food....made from ground chick peas or fava Beans.....

What is Falafel ?

Traditionally, it's rolled in to balls and deep fried.....but obviously not the best choice for our current quest!

Another alternative is to roll them in to balls (about the size of a golf ball), then flatten them until they are about 3/4" thick....brush each side with oil....LIGHTLY....then bake at 350 for 45 minutes, turning them about halfway through.....they're done when they are golden brown....

make great sandwiches in a pita!

Hmmmmmmmmmm.....never seen powdered kind.

Make it so it's stiff enough that you can handle it and form it in to balls.....maybe a little less than cookie dough......

One of mine & DH's favorite restaurants is this little hidden Lebanese place downtown Dallas. Falafel is prepared as Harley Girl mentions w/a funky yogurt sauce. OMG, it's SO good. I can literally eat that and a bucket of hummus w/warm pita bread (pre-band of course:tongue:).

I bought a box of powdered falafel - and never could get it the way it's been prepared at our little slice of heaven, I bet they deep fry it. Crunchy on the outside - yums inside...

Never thought to try & bake - might be worth a shot..like cookie dough:smile:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
