sholder pain after first fill

Recommended Posts

Hi all!

I had my first fill yesterday. 1.5cc's in an ab (I think) which is equivilant to a 10cc band. I did liquids for 24 hours and had 4oz salmon and 6 oz green Beans. Just after I started eating I got these strange pains in my left shoulder. Is that normal and what does it mean?? I also waited an hour after to drink Water which was hard to do. I didn't feel hungry for several hours but now I am rumbly in my tummy. Ate a peice of low fat string cheese and got a little gassy. Is this all normal? Is this my new bandster life? My doc gave me a list of lot's of no no foods: any bread/pasta/popcorn/granola bars/tortillas. WOW!!! He said he had done so many fixes with slipped bands recently that he wants all patients to just stay away from these things. Did it take a while to figure out what foods your body would tolerate? This is a learning expierence everyday!

Best of luck to everyone! Peace

I never experienced the pain in the shoulder after a fill. The only time I notice a pain in my shoulder is when I have a vomitting episode. And it normally goes away in a few mins. I was banded 12/11/06. I cannot have bread/pasta/baked potatoes/rice...I gues anything that is heavy. And something that is weird if i eat potato chips I cannot have lays but I can eat ruffles. weird huh? I can however eat tortillas I wonder why you cannot eat those?

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
