Port Relocation

Recommended Posts

Hi,

After several unsuccessful tries at filling my band for the first time, my doctor decided that he's going to have to move my port from my abdominal area to the breastbone area. This is because he says there is too much adipose tissue on my belly in order for him to be able to reach my port. I really don't want to go through another surgery, but I know it's necessary in order to get my fills and lose more weight.

I've heard having a port in this area, that it looks like a button or something sticking out. I don't like the idea of having the port there because of that reason. Has anyone had their port relcoated to the breastbone or upper stomach area? If so, what is your experience?

Hi Puddin,

There are quite a few bandsters who have their port moved to their breastbone area. One that I know of is Laura (FairyFacade). I am sure that she would be willing to tell you about it if you PM her.

TulipStar,

Thanks for the reference. I will contact FairyFacade and "talk" to her about it. I'm also thinking to ask my doctor to let me try to lose more weight on my own before having another surgery, perhaps two more months, and then see what happens.

Maybe also doing some crunches every day will help flatten out the stomach some by strengthening the underlying muscles. I really want to avoid another surgery. I guess I'd better get moving! :tt1:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
