Hi everyone, I am being banded on Tuesday, April 8. The only pre-op diet I have is 48 hours of Clear liquids. I'm ready for that and I was wondering, if any of you were given any restrictions about alcohol so close to surgery. I enjoy a couple of glasses of wine a few nights a week and I know I won't be able to do that post-op, but do you think it would be a problems for tonight and tomorrow night, if I indulge a little?

I got my medical clearance today and my former post about toothache has been resolved and the surgeon said any meds I took for the root canal will not affect the surgery. I was so worried.

Good luck to all this coming weeks new bandsters. We're going to do great!

Alice

Well since your procedure is on the 8th... Depending on what kind of cocktails you have they may add some weight to you... besides you are trying to shrink your liver I would say NO.... Or do a google search and see how long it takes for you system to rid itself of the cocktails.... 1 or 2 normal glasses of wine im sure wouldn't hurt but i would definately so a search just to make sure.. You don't want to have any adverse effects....

That would actually be a better question for your doctor. I would choose to abstain this close to surgery, and try to stay hydrated.

Good luck on Tuesday!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
