So the question is........after you finally get to begin eating real foods again, will we be able to eat fresh steamed veggies and fresh fruits or will it always have to be soft canned stuff? What about lettuce salads and things like that?

You should be able to eat fresh Veggies / Fruits & Salads!!! To be honest, my Surgeon does not recommend soft foods (unless the day after a fill) at all. I enjoy all the above & often!!!

You should be able to eat anything you can chew well but everyone seems to have a couple things they can't eat. bread and scrambled eggs are common. I have issues with bananas

I may have problems with eating certain types of foods with proper restriction but I don't have much restriction right now. The only foods I have slight issues with is watermelon/cantelope and I think 'cause of the Water content?

I have been one of those ppl who could eat everything - until I went for sushi at lunch - I don't think I can eat sticky rice - now mind you I eat jasimine rice every night with dinner - but today - got stuck-! either I ate too fast slight possibility - or didn't chew - again slight possibility but omw I was stuck - so I don't think I will be having sushi anytime soon

Well I am only 3.5 weeks out and I can pretty much eat anything. I have been eating salads for almost a week. Lettuce, tomatoes, beats, green onions, croutons, cheese and even a bit of bacon sometimes. I chopped the salad really good and then have at it. Small bites. I would hate not to be able salads.

I have also had asparagus with no problems. I think chewing is the key.

I do get hungry and don't fill up too easy, so Monday I will calling to get a fill. Good news is I have lost 27 pounds since my surgery date of March 10th, but I gained one pound back. I think I am eating too much. Or could it have been that ice cream....hmmmm:redface:

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
