Ok weird question?????!!!!

Recommended Posts

Hi all of you

I have not had my band fitted it should be in May. I just have a couple of questions for the more experienced bandsters.

1. I would like to take up kick boxing after I have some initial weight loss but am wondering if it is going to be a good idea??? Would it possibly disturb my band is I substained some impact to the band area???

2. Does any one ever feel the tube from the port to the band move about?

Sorry had to ask curiosity was killing me!!!

Thanks in advance!

Well first of all I'd like to say when preparing for this procedure no question is too weird. Getting banded is such a HUGE scary decision.

It's funny because in all the topics that were discussed in my pre-op group I don't think anyone ever mentioned anything about the possibility of sustaining a blow to the abdomen or even injury. Hopefully there are other bandsters here that can answer your kick boxing question! If I had to hazard a guess I'd say it would probably take several severe blows to cause any damage with the band itself. My little 10lbs chihuahua/yorkie pounces on my belly all the time!

I can feel my port quite well and for weeks after surgery kept grossing out my family by making them feel it too. I've never felt the tubing, The only time I've ever actually considered the tubing is when I had my first fill. It doesn't flap around

When I woke up from surgery I expected to really feel the presence of the band. Nope.

Take care and good luck!

Hi Candi,

Thanks for getting back to me! Way to go on the 68lb's gone!

Glad to know the tubing does not flap about, that would be weird indeed! I will wait to see if anyone has any more advice re: the kickboxing! Your dog sounds cute though!

Have a good day

Great questions! Don't think I have seen those yet? I might avoid the kick-boxing. I don't think you could actually do damage to the port or band, but your port is right under your skin and it is just a bit tender if it gets bumped. I have a 3 year old who likes to launch himself onto me and several times his 40 lb self has landed on my port and it is kind of like getting hit on an existing bruise.

Nope - never felt any tubing. The port is easy to feel, but no swishing tubing. I think things are pretty packed tight in the belly area.

Good luck!

Well, I think I can offer some insight into your kickboxing question.

When I met with the therapist at my surgeon's office, he asked me if I have considered what I'd do for exercise after surgery. I said I wasn't sure, but that I have a 4th degree black belt in karate, and I hadn't attended class in a long, LONG time. He highly recommended I get back into it.

So, I'm assuming that kickboxing would be fine, since karate is no problem.

Do you end up with a port pooch? Can you see a raised area of skin or is it inconspicuous?

Miss Wilde, I think that's a great question! I am a tennis player and was wondering kinda the same thing. I asked my doctor about it and he said that I should AT LEAST wait a good month before more physical exercise. There is a lot of running, stopping fast and bouncing around in tennis and I wondered if I'd be able to feel the band cord and port moving around. I can't really imagine and it did kinda freaks me out. Glad to know you can't feel it moving about! =)

The patient advocate at my surgical center said that she can feel her port under her skin, but that as you lose weight, your doctor "may" be able to bury it deeper for you if it bothers you.

I didn't ask about the impact question.

Here's what I was told in my pre-op class...

Of course this is based on how my doc places the band....He attaches it to the abdominal muscle wall well beneath my fat and skin. I will have to push pretty good to feel the port. So, he says no problem if I accidently get hit in the area.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
