My doctor told me no blood pressure medication?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I have so many questions since I was banded today. I take blood pressure medication and it is a direutic (like a Water pill). My doctor told me not to take it? Has anybody else's doctor told them not to take their blood pressure medication after surgery? When I do not take it, I get headaches and retain lots of water. It is a vey uncomfortable feeling. I have my first post-op appt. next week and hopefully he will tell me that I can start taking it again. Thank you everybody.

Yes, they took me off my meds. I was suprised too. Even at my post-op they told me to keep off them. I saw my PCP a few days after that and she has decided to keep me off them. Because we lose weight pretty fast, it is hard to regulate and as long as my BP stays pretty normal she's not worried. Mine was a diuretic too, but I haven't retained Water like I used to since my surgery. Good luck!!

Thank you so much for your replies. I just thought this was a bit odd since I need to keep my blood pressure down. I would actually love to be off of them for good. I hope I am in the same boat with not having to take them because I have lost so much weight. Thanks again!!

I used to have a bit of a high BP, but now that I'm down 80lbs, I'm hovering right around 120/80.

Yay for the band. hahaha.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
