hungry4help 0 Posted April 4, 2008 hi folks... i've searched on other threads, but haven't been able to find an answer re: delayed reactions to a fill. a few folks here have mentioned that they sometimes didn't feel the effects of a fill for a week or more. why is that? is there a physiological explanation or is it simply something that happens occasionally? i recently had my first fill (3cc at surgery + 1cc 3/27=4ccs in an APL). i definitely can't eat as much as pre-op. but i actually feel less restricted now than before my fill about a week ago. what's the deal with delayed reactions to a fill. thanks in advance for any and all insight. VegasGrace 1 Posted April 4, 2008 Hey, congrats on your weightloss! I'll make you even more confused  While I'm on maintenance, lately I've been really restricted...like can't even hold fluids down sometimes. It happens when my teenager is around.... hahahah, no kidding. So now I know it's stress related. Wish someone could explain it. So if it's okay I'll watch this thread for responses, too. delo 1 Posted April 4, 2008 well, my thoughts on fills is that it may take time for all the saline to reach the band. Maybe it takes a couple days to reach the band?
Sue Magoo 71 Posted April 4, 2008 Hi: I'm guessing that sometimes your pouch gets a bit swollen when it's getting used to a new, tighter fit. Just a guess. It has happened to me twice - at about ten days out. Sue
favorite 3 Posted April 4, 2008 i have no idea why you feel more restriction sometimes a week or two after a fill, but i mentioned it to my doctor and she said it was a common occurrance. but what really baffles me is sometimes i have really tight restriction one day where i can barely eat and then the next day i can almost eat like i did pre band. ahhh the mysterious band... azchick 0 Posted April 4, 2008 My doc's hand out at my first fill today says this: KNOW THAT A FILL MAY NOT FEEL LIKE IT IS HAVING ANY EFFECT FOR 2 WEEKS. THIS IS YOUR BRAIN CATCHING UP WITH YOUR STOMACH. SO, GIVE A FILL AT LEAST 2 WEEKS TO SEE HOW WELL IT IS DOING. Wow, my brain must be bigger than I thought it was if it takes that long to catch up to my stomach!!!!LOL!!!!! I had 1.5cc's in my first fill, does anyone know if that is about the norm?
hungry4help 0 Posted April 5, 2008 thanks, grace. and thanks az... my brain and my stomach have clearly have communication issues. sigh. 2nd fill is thursday, am hoping that it will work better and that i won't have to rely almost exclusively on will power. (my will power is waining!) will also ask my doc if there's more medical data on this delayed reaction phenomenon. have a great weekend everyone.
