HELP PLZ! Cravings about to take over!

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I'm 15 days post-op and feeling pretty good! However, i have a few cravings that are going to win soon and I need to figure out what to do. I absolutely am dying for Pho noodles, which is a Vietnamese dish of beef broth, egg noodles and soft meat. I'm sure I could handle the beef and broth, but are egg noodles any easier to digest than regular Pasta? I know that rice, bread and pasta are usually no-no's for bandsters, but since I'm not filled yet, I am wondering if I can have one last farewell meal with a favorite dish?

ANY advice or personal experience would be soooo nice. I'm literally losing my self-control! I REALLY want those darn noodles! HELP!

Are you on mushies -- I assume 15 days post-op? If so just call your surgeon or nutritionist or whomever made up your post-op plan and ask if they consider well-cooked noodles in liquid a mushy.

At the point you're at, it's not so much what "bandsters" tolerate (you won't have a fill yet, may have some swelling still, but tolerances/intolerances shouldn't be much of an issue until you start getting fills), as it is sticking to your post-op diet.

1st - what stage are you on your post op diet - this meal sounds like it would be considered soft - not a mushie and 15 days out I was on mushies. You have to follow your doc's post op diet

2nd you gotta quit thinking about them - quit obessing about them -they will be there in another few weeks - they aren't going anywhere - it's just food - food is always availble - as fat chicks for some reason we think if we don't have it right now we are going to die - heck you aren't going to die from not eating your fav meal - in fact you might live a little longer

Keep to your food plan that your doc has given you - heck try and spice up your mushie - you will survive - it's only food - it's not manna from heaven -

Stay strong - Good Luck...........

I LOVE pho too, although I usually get chicken. Several of the Vietnamese restaurants around here sell just the broth without the meat or noodles-- you could put the herbs in then take them out or just not eat them-- it might help with the craving. Good luck!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
