Anti Inflammatories & the Lap Band

Recommended Posts

Hi all, is anyone on a regular course of anti inflammatories post-op? The reason I ask is I have to take prescribed NSAIDs for another condition and am concerned about being able to take them after I have the lap band as I know they are hard on the stomach. I also take another medication in conjunction with the NSAIDs to lessen the effects on my stomach but cannot stop taking the anti inflammatories altogether.

Any advice or information on this would be greatly appreciated as I do not intend to put off the procedure due to this however I do need to find out any risks etc.

Have a great day everyone!

i know that you are not supposed to take any aspirin or NSAIDS after the surgery (or directly before). the only thing you can take is tylenol. however, if you are worried about this, you should just speak with your surgeon. he will know what to do about your meds. he might allow you to stay on them, or he might put you on a different medication that will work equally well but will not harm your stomach. i don't know what your condition is that causes you to need anti-inflams, but losing weight might imporove that condition so that you don't need them any more. good luck.

I assume you haven't been banded yet? My surgeon doesn't do lapband for people that are on regular courses of NSAIDs. Thats not to say that some don't and thats also not to say that my surgeon is wrong and the others are right. NSAIDs are a non-issue for me cuz I'm allergic.

So my advice.... Ask your surgeon!

My surgeon said something about taking a liquid ibuprofren (not that I've ever seen this at the drugstore - maybe prescription?) if I needed to take it. His concern was having the anti-inflammatory sit in the pouch but the liquid should pass through. However, we were talking about occasional use - not so much regular usage.

Better check with your doc to see if there's an alternative anti-inflammatory besides nsaids. Long term use or high doses will put you at risk for erosion. I don't think you want to go through that.

I take celebrex on a regular basis. I am 4 weeks post-op and I take it daily. I have not had any problems. I am not getting an adjustment until 5/08, so I do not know if that will pose a problem.

I did discuss this with my surgeon before and he said it will not pose a problem. As a matter of fact, the morning of my surgery, I was given celebrex - the hospital feels it helps control pain in conjunction with other meds. As always, if in doubt, consult your physician. Good luck!!!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
