Help! Vomiting...

Recommended Posts

I am 5 days post-op and still on Clear Liquids. I can tolerate some things, and other things I throw up. For instance, today I drank some diluted apple juice and within minutes I could feel a huge knot in my stomach all the way to my back and then I start spitting it back up. I have a call in to my Doctor, but I am really concerned about my band. I am a self-pay so the worry is even more intense. Did anyone else have this happen? If so, is your band fine? Thank you so much to anyone who replies.

It's possible that you have post op swelling that is making your band tight. Did your Dr put any fill in at the time of surgery?

People have said that they are tighter at different times of the day.

Are you sipping or gulping? Drinking too fast could cause it to come back up. Try small sips and drink slowly.

Just try to slow down the speed at which you are taking things in, so that if something has to come back up, it will be a small amount that can be simply spit up, as opposed to a larger amount that would cause you to feel like you were full fledged vomiting.

Your Dr. will of course be the best one to answer this....I hope he calls soon!

Some peoples stomachs are just much touchier than others....and once you get upset, then you cause the swelling to continue, so it is best to find out how he wants to handle it.

I had friends fly down to Dr. Rumbaut to be banded a few years ago, and on the way home, following being banded, the husband got air sick, and he vomitted or dry heaved for most of the trip. They were in the air, and even when they landed they were hours from home. They called him as soon as they landed, and he told them what to get, and they got a motel room, and he slept for hours.....and when he woke up he was not sick at his stomach any more.

He stayed on clear liquid for a little longer than usual, but he has lost close to 150 pounds, and is fine......

It was the right thing to do calling the Dr. Let us know what you hear!!!

Did your doctor prescribe anything for naseau? Mine did - 3 refills worth. If you don't have a prescription get some fresh ginger, peel and grate ( or thinly slice it), pour boiling Water over it, add i smidge of sugar and lemon to taste. let it steep, strain and drink. that should help settle your stomach. oh and you might want to stay away from apple juice. I hope this helps you. Good luck.

He said I should not be vomiting on clear liquids. He asked me if I hear a bubbling noise when I swallow I told him yes, everytime. He told me that I have alot of swelling and my band is really tight. I now have to stay on clear liquids until I can start keeping them down and get this..I have to drink with a teaspoon! It is so hard! He told me if I can't get 2 liters down a day I am gonna get dehydrated.

The good part of this is I am losing about a lb a day right now. I just hope I don't get dehydrated. <!--IBF.ATTACHMENT_21138-->

You can try small ice chips as well. They will melt slowly in your mouth. Can you use a shot glass to measure out the Water? During my overnight hospital stay I had very small cups ( the kind the hospital gives you a pill in) and filled them with Water and every 15 mins, I drank one slowly.

Hopefully, your swelling will go down soon.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
