Feeling Discouraged

Hi All. I'm feeling really discouraged right now. I feel like I've been working on getting banded forever and its gotten me down. I went to my seminar in January, couldn't get an appointment to see the psychologist until end of March, can't get into the nutritionist until end of April. It just seems to be dragging on and on and on and.... I'm a planner by nature I want to have all my ducks in a row but its like I can't even prepare for the next step because until I get through this one they won't tell me what the next one is.

*big hug* Hang in there, just have to remember that it will all be worth it in the end. Just have to remember that it could be worse, some people have to wait 6months to get it done due to their insurance policies.

You've already made the decision to get it done you are one step closer to a happier, healthier you. Maybe write out a list of why you want to have the lapband surgery and how it will affect you and your life. Then when you get down about the wait, reread your list and remember that it will all be worth it!

I went to the seminar in July of last year, and was banded March 19. The hoops you have to go through may seem unbearable, but you can get through it! It is soooo worth the wait. It will be here before you know it:) Best of luck to you!

Ang,

When you've made the decision and you know it's right for you, it's so hard to jump through all the hoops that the system presents for you. Hang in there, take this time to prepare yourself for post banding life. Educate yourself on what it's going to be like, imagine yourself having to eat like a bandster. If you're a planner, take the time to plan how you're going to change yourself and your behaviors after you are banded. This is your strength, use it to your advantage. You'll find a well prepared bandster is a successful bandster.

We all have our challenges getting to the "big day". But that's really only the beginning of the journey. Once you are banded, you'll have different challenges. Learn, prepare, know and be confidant.

Good Luck,

It's easy to get discouraged while "waiting".Try to hang in there because it's worth the wait! I went to my first seminar in Nov. of 2006 and between the prep I had to do <six month diet> and the insurance hoops I had to jump, I didn't have my surgery til Jan.2008. I am so glad I didn't give up! Good luck to you!!!

I totally know how you feel. I went to my seminar in October, and was just banded Monday. I felt like it would never end, yet, I am now banded. The process takes time, but it is definitely time well spent. Keep your head up, before you know it you will be waking up in recovery!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
