Birth Control after Lap Band

Recommended Posts

I asked the Doc today and he said 6 to 8 weeks. I hate that. My birth control did so much more for me than what it is usually used for. The risk for blood clots is still to high he said. Oh well. Just have to wait it out again.

Hey there Pearlygirl. Hope it all goes well for you. I waited 18 months for my surgery. The insurance really played a number on me. Then we got new insurance and two weeks later was scheduled for surgery. Thanks for the info. Where are you having it done?

Hey there Cherylann. My doctor and searching the website said atleast one month before surgery because it significantly raises the possibility of blood clots. What I have learned so far is a mixed review of this. I also looked at the birth control paper work that comes with the packets and this risk for blood clots is high anyway.

I kept taking mine - they asked me what kind I was taking and put it in the records and told me to take it that morning with a sip of Water. :-) Thankfully it is tiny so I don't have to cut it up either.

well i took my last BC pill the day before surgery. (and so that means i started my period 1 day after my surgery...oh the luck!) and i continue just as i always have with my regular pack. but as you can see, all of our doctors told up different things, so make sure you talk to your doctor about it, and just take what we say as advice. good luck!!

I never stopped taking my pill. I didn't have to. The doctor said I would be fine and I was. Also...I have had NO problems with any kind of pills. I notice that others take liquid or crush pills. I have taken some pretty big pills and have had no problems. Good luck.

There shouldn't have been any reason to stop in the first place. There are risks of clotting after surgery regardless of the pill or not. That's why they use stockings, injections, massage and other means to reduce the risk of clots.
