Yogurt is ok?

Recommended Posts

My doctor in the booklet he gave me told me not to have empty calories - on drinks, and he also had in there on milk products - yogurt, he said not to have milk products because boosts the calories to fast??I always go for low fat.

I have had more dairy in the 6 months of being banded than I have in the last 6yrs combined...LOL I have yogurt on a regular basis - Low Fat w/some kind of fruit & granola; this is my Breakfast on some days. I think your Dr might be wanting you to watch "whole dairy" - but call & ask. I can't see yogurt as a bad thing really,.....

Many drinks are empty calories, so I can completely understand that. But milk products, especially low-fat ones? I don't see an issue there (although low-carb fans would say to get full fat; I don't do low-carb, so this is just me). I eat low-fat (but not non-fat) yogurt, cheese, cottage cheese and have skim milk on a regular basis. I need the Calcium and Protein. Obviously I have to watch the portion sizes as with everything else. I would ask your doctor about having low-fat, high Protein dairy products in small amounts.

Did your doc specify what Calcium sources he wanted you to use?

I do have yogurt sometimes, but usually mixed with Cereal so it doesn't slide right through. It's a mushy, so it's not going to give you the satiated feeling that solid food will.

My center says no liquid or mushy calories except 2 dairy servings per day. Which sounds more sensible to me than excluding dairy. I still don't get enough calcium, so I take a Viactiv chew these days.

Good ideas. will mix fruit and museli with my low fat yougurt, then when go to the doc ask if that is okay, i have been having low fat feta and a little low fat sliced, but the cheese is what i could easily overdo , so got to be careful.I take a Calcium tablet everyday, he knows that as mum as oesteoprosis.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
