I had my surgery on July 6th and I am totally thrilled with it. I have had two fills and my doctor hit it both times with no problem. He is new at this but is doing great. Very careing and concerned. His staff is always helpful. I did not have a pre op diet. As of this date I have lost 22 lbs.

I am going to Dr. Pinnar's info seminar this Wed. night and had the cost of fills as a question to ask. I have UHC, but have less than 5 months left on policy - have to get my own insurance since I'm self-employed and have been cobra'g for a while now. Does he do fills for patients he didn't do surgery for?
'

Not unless referred to by another physician (i.e a banded patient moving into the area from another state, far from their doc). He does NOT fill Mexican banded patients

Hey Slim, Congrats on your new band. I live in Marion...had my banding done in Johnson city by a bone headed doctor and am now seeing Dr. Sass. I am so happy to be working with Dr. Sass now. I've been very busy this summer and haven't spent much time on the computer at all, but this site sure helped me out tons with wonderful information from fellow banders. Take Care and maybe I'll hear from you again. Take Care and God Bless You and your efforts.

Hello slimwithin. Welcome. I know you will love your band just as I do. I wish I could have gotten it 10 years ago. Dr Sass and his staff are great as you will find out. I live in Richlands. Let me know if I can be of any help.

I would be interested in hearing any additional comments about Dr. Pinnar in Reston, VA. I have read through this thread and caught Prince's comments (thank you!) but would like to hear more . . . especially if you have Unicare insurance. Thanks!

I'm new to to this whole thing, i have alot of quesions as well, glad to have found this site, gave me alot of insight. I live in hampton, virginia and my doctor referred me to a doctor that does the surgery. I am considering the band surgery as well as the gastric bypass. I want pro's, con's and long term affects of both to weigh what will be more conducive as well as healthy to my weight loss. Do you have to get fills for the rest of your life? do you end up paying for them even if your insurance is going to cover the surgery?

My insurance pays for my fills, minus a co-pay. I have been banded almost 2 years and have lost 97 pounds. I chose the band because it is a much safer procedure. Also, I did not want to take supplements for the rest of my life. I am a very bad pill-taker.

The band is a slower weight loss, but with no "honeymoon" period. When we loosen up, we just go and get more saline. You can't do that with the bypass, and the stoma DOES stretch with time.

I have not had a fill since last Nov, but I have had 2 unfills since then.

I saw Dr. Robert Pinnar (the father, Eric is his son) and I love him. I am going for my first fill today! I would reccomend him anytime!

Hey Gang,

I am about to be banded on Friday! I had orginially gone to see Dr. Pinnar, and also the guy in Fairfax (Dr. Mozzaez or something like that), but couldn't get insurance to cover it and the out of pocket cost was a bit too much for me. So I found a Dr. in Colorado who does it for $10k (same as the Mexican Docs but you get to stay in the US!) and it includes 3 mos of follow up and fills. After the 3 mos, fills are only $15!

Fortunately for me, my sister lives about 20 min. from him so I'll be recovering at her place and will have her there for moral support, but figured I'd throw this out to some of you who look like you're going to be self-payers like me. His name is Dr. Kirshenbaum (www.lapbandrockies.com), and he has a great bedside manner and his staff is great!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
