My first fill Thursday!

Recommended Posts

I talked with another lapbander on my surgeons website. She had her surgery exactly 1 week before me with the same Doctor in the Office I'm at and just had her first fill. She asked questions that I was going to ask Thursday and I found out that our band is 10cc's and that he put in 3cc's at time of surgery. He put in 2 cc's at her first fill. I'm curious if he has different criteria for the fill. Does it depend on your weight, amount of restriction at the time of fill etc.

I'm of course going to ask him at my appointment.

How much was your first fill?

Blessings,

Brenda

I got my first fill a few hours ago. mine was empty and they put 1.6cc's. they want to go slow and cause no problems, i appreciate that. if there is no restriction and no problems i can go back with in 10 days for another fill for only $50 instead of $125. i'll go back saturady. have to be on liquids today and mushy tomorrow and then regular food. did hurt at all! This is a fill center not a regular doctor because my doctor is in Mexico. i can get them free there if i want to buy an airfplane ticket. lol

Oh I badly need a fill. I bought a roasted vegetable roll for lunch and because it was so big, when I looked at it and it nearly made me sick to the stomach. But I ate the whole darned thing! It was so yummy.

I have my first fill on Thurs 10 April and can't wait. I have no restriction (my doc doesn't put any in during the op) so I can still eat anything I want. I find rice and Pasta the worst though - they cause horrible indigestion.

My weight is fluctuating also. I am still losing steadily (and very happy with my loss so far) even eating more than I should on occasions. I just can't wait to feel some restriction and limit the amount I am eating.

I need to chew and eat slowly though. This is my biggest fear right now, that I haven't got that down pat yet.

Cheers all.

i found this website and am thankful for it. first, to have answers for my many questions. i need to lose 100lbs!!! and my doctor played devil's advocate about my reasons for the surgery and counting calories, which doesn't work. i've tried several diets, the most successful being medifast, but lost too quickly and was quite ill, the weight came back plus more!!! and tired of the Soups...so after gaining over 100lbs in year and one-half, the surgery seems the best for me. i have been researching the success rate and pregnancy after having the procedure done. some of the lingo on this site i don't understand, so please enlighten me:

what is "fill."

thanks!!!

I had my first fill on 3/18 (a little more than a month after my surgery). I got 1.6 cc's in my 10 cc AP band, which was empty -- he does not put in any at the time of surgery. Since my surgeon was out of state he didn't want to be too aggressive, and I had some restriction with that amount. It was an interesting experience, and absolutely painless. He gave me a Huber needle to take with me in case I needed an emergency unfill -- which he said could be done by a radiologist.

I am going to schedule another fill soon (locally this time) because I am starting to eat bigger meals and get hungry between meals. I probably should've gotten a bigger fill, but since it was my first one I wanted to be cautious and figure out how it is supposed to feel. I have lost 3 pounds since the fill -- I also started exercising regularly -- so I'm doing well. I hope all of my fellow VVs are too!

I won't have a fill until 4/17 - 7 weeks after surgery. My surgeon put in 2ccs at surgery, and they said I will get 1 cc at my first fill. I have a 10cc band.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
