:sad:Just wondering if anyone else has run into this. I have (had) a band date of 4/23 and as part of pre surgery tests they did a gallbladder ultrasound. Well, mine came back that I have gallstones and I have to have my gallbladder taken out before I can have the band put in. I have to wait 4-6 weeks after the gallbladder is removed before they will put the lap band in. I see the surgeon tomorrow about the gallbladder. His PA said the gallbladder surgery will be within the next two weeks (I'll have a definite date tomorrow) so my band surgery will be moved to mid to late May. I know this is for the best but it's just to frustrating. I just wanted to sit and cry when I found out.

I'm sorry. Just think...thank goodness they found out now. You don't want to get an infection b/c something was wrong with your gallbladder, you know?

Nikki:

My circumstances are slightly different. I was banded last July, and I have gall stones now. My pain is intermittent, so it's bearable most of the time. I'm scheduled to get gall bladder out on 4/17. I heard that it is similar to lap band surgery as far as cuts and recovery. Lap band surgery was easy (except nausea after anesthesia), so I'm thinking that gall bladder should be easy too. In fact, I'm thinking that gall bladder must be a bit easier because my surgeon does lap band with overnight stay in hospital, but my gall bladder removal is outpatient surgery.

It is disappointing because you thought you would be getting banded and now you have to wait. Surgery for banding is easier if you can decrease size of your liver, which is done by losing weight before surgery. Now's a good time to start a pre-op diet program.

Best wishes for successful gall bladder and lap band surgery.

Sue

OOOps. I thought I posted, but it's not there.

Nikki:

My circumstances are a bit different, but we're both having our gallbladders out. I was banded last July and now I have gallstones. I had an attack about 3 weeks ago and they found the stones using ultrasound. I was hoping to hold off until summer weather, but I had three more attacks since then. So, my gallbladder is coming out on 4/17. My lap band surgeon is doing the gallbladder. I think the gallbladder is very similar as far as cuts and being done laproscopically, however gallbladder must be easier because he said gallbladder is day surgery and he keeps people overnight for lap band.

I know you're disappointed, but it will be here before you know it. I started dieting 3 mos. before I got banded. I just couldn't stand carrying it around anymore! It's supposed to make surgery safer to lose weight beforehand.

Good luck to you with both the gallbladder and the band. If you get your gallbladder out before the 17th let me know what it's like.

Take care.

Sue

Thanks. I know it's for the best. It's just I waited, debated, went back and forth about getting the band and I'm finally confortable with my decision and ready and now I have to wait. I wish they could do them at the same time but they are worried about infections causing problems with the band.

Sue

I will definitely let you know how everything goes if I have it done before the 17th. If I don't, you'll have to let me know what to expect and how yours went!

Here's my story. I was banded in Oct. in the middle of the night in Nov. I woke up with the most horrible pain ever (chest, back, abdomen) I seriously thought I was going to die. Was rushed to ER and they said it was reflux due to the band. Gave me a Rx for it. I was sad, angry and mad. I cried and thought "what have I done to myself with this band" Same EXACT thing happened once in Dec. and again in Jan. only I refused to leave the ER in Jan. until someone gave me a better explaination. They did an ultrasound and found 1 huge stone. It was my gallbladder the whole time. I had it removed. Very easy almost painless procedure (no pain meds at all). It was an out-patient day stay just like my band. The same surgeon did it. Then I had to wait some time to recover before being able to exercise again.

I WISH they caught it before the band.

Good luck ladies.

Thanks for the info. I guess waiting a little on the front end to save major pain and problems later is worth it. They said it could be part of why I have acid relux now, I just haven't any pain like I hear other people talking about. I guess that's a good thing.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
