Greetings from Washington State!!

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I'm a 22 year old female from Washington state just starting off on this wonderful and scary adventure. I have gone to my seminar and have all three of my surgeons consult, nurse consult and psych consult coming up here very soon. I will be seeing Dr. Montgomery at the Northwest Weight Loss Surgery. I have gotten the opportunity to chat with him for a while, and he really seems to know his stuff. Has anyone else gone here, and could they share their experience with me?

Although I'm fairly young, I have already begun to experience some health related weight problems that have begun to scare me. The most common regret I have heard from talking with other patents that have gotten the surgery is that they regret that they did not do it sooner. It took me a while to gain the support of my parents (although I don't live with them I still would like to have their support in this) and my dad has really come around and believes that this is the best thing for me. He came with me to the seminar as well.

Any tips and thoughts from anyone would be welcome! I am supposed to get my surgery by the end of April or beginning of May. Thanks!

Hey, I'm a Dr. Montgomery patient. He's great. Most of the staff @ NWWLS is great too -- hopefully you'll be able to make it to some of the support groups.

Welcome to LBT!

I had my surgery in SE WASHINGTON (Tri City Area)... 2 weeks out from surgery. I feel good down 31 lbs... It just seems to melt off... my best suggestion is read read read. Everyones experiences everything differently. Its not the worst surgery I've had, but trust me it is still surgery, you will have pain. My only regret is not going crazy and eating all my favorite foods before surgery, because I am craving them really bad right now. stick to your Drs. diet also... they have a reason for the diets.

GOOD LUCK! Keep us all posted on how your doing!!!

Oooh my gosh - I was banded by dr montgomery on 3/4 at NWWLS! He is the BEST - the entire staff are fantastic. I've been blogging about my entire experience via the link below. You should check it out. I can't say enough positive things about the entire experience. It was the best thing I've ever done for myself. Feel free to contact me directly if you would like to chat first hand.

Just joined today and am reading up on some posts while I have a few minutes (those are few and far between with a 9-month-old and 4-year-old to chase after). I'm in Seattle, WA and will be getting banded on 4/17 by Dr. Michaelson @ NWWLS. I almost chose Dr. Montgomery (mainly due to scheduling/availability), but Dr. Michaelson spoke at the seminar I attended, and a friend who had the surgery was banded by him as well, so I basically just went with what I knew. But I've heard nothing but good things about all of the surgeons there, and the staff has all been really great. I've been through the psych evaluation, nurse consult, surgical consult, and have the pre-op scheduled for the 11th and start on my (10lb) Medifast weightloss at that time, too. I'm, admittedly, "indulging" a bit in some of my favorite meals right now, though, since I know it will be some time (if ever again) that I'll be able to eat any of them. That said, the idea of missing out on those things is definitely nothing compare to remaining this weight and missing out on time spent with my family.

Anyway, I look forward to reading more from everyone here, and especially those who are in the area. Best of luck to all of you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
