I wasn't required to lose 5%. I had to go on a pre-op diet, but was not required to lose a specific amount.

How soon did it take you to lose your required weight loss of 5% for surgery.

Well i look at it like this... if I was 200lbs then 10% of that would be 20lbs so 1/2 of that would only be 10lbs so that dosent seem like it would be that hard....Hell if your drinking nothing but shakesu will looser more than that... even if u drink 2 shakes and eat 1 meal.. u will still loose a lot.... hope this helps... it takes 3200 calories = 1 pound of fat.. so if u are cutting your calories by 2000 almost and + your body burns a certain amount of calories just by doing nothing at all this is called your 'RMR' Resting metabolic rate. so just say it is 2500 and you only eat 1200 calories for the day u have burned more calories than u have consumed so that = weight loss... and just imagine if u add 30-60 minutes of walking with that...

Because of my pre-op BMI (38) I was not required to lose any weight before surgery. But if I had gained, I would have been canceled until I lost it. My surgeon does require some to lose weight, but it is patient specific, not a flat 5% for everyone.

I did have to do a 2-week pre-op fasting program, I did Medifast. I lost 8 pounds during this 2-week phase.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
