Carbonation and gum....

Recommended Posts

I like that idea! I am a diet coke fanatic and need the taste...I also had a suggestion from a bander, to swish and spit...you can have the taste with the bubbles and then spit it out, so it doesn't jeaopardize the band...Cathy

I was told no soda.

Makes no sense to me. The bubbles escape...wouldn't stretch the pouch IMO...BUt I will follow the rules.

Gum, easy, the glob would def. get stuck.

I do find it odd though that they want us to make healthier choices..and are pushing (mine pushed) all the other diet sweetener crap.

Splenda would damn near kill me and Aspartame should kill me but it runs through my veins.

I'm on my "wtf am I thinking" wave this week. I'm having doubts .....but that's my problem right now.

It is common knowledge that soda pop is not good for us, whether it is sugar free or not. But it is kind of amazing that they tell us these wild things---and expect us to take it as truth because THEY said it!!!

Never heard of a stoma exploding....wouldn't that just be your stomach exploding? All that is being referred to by the stoma---is the small opening, where the band tightens down.

Diet Dr. Pepper used to be part of everyday for me. Not so anymore! I went for over a year with none whatsoever, not even a sip. Then a few sips were actually suggested, when something was not going through well for me...and I tried it and it worked.....but I still for the most part avoid it. Figuring, it is one less thing for me to have to buy!!! Saved some serious cash not buying it too!!!

I think here where I live when I quit buying it, I was paying $2 for a 12 pack, now it is $4.50!!! Nothing is cheap anymore!!

I think my wallet will blow up from the shock of things......

Sharon2U, I think you can rest assured, your stoma will not explode, it is not even possible. As for the drinks, I do drink 1/4 POM juice with 3/4 seltzer Water that I stir out almost all of the fizz, pretty tasty I think. It's my beverage at work and takes me hours to drink but a little more appealing than water at 3am at the hospital.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
