Officeslave 0 Posted April 1, 2008 Do any of you go to support groups? I went to one last week and it was a "newbie" class (2 - 12 weeks post-op only). It was basically just questions and answers. The down side was that out of 24 patients there, only 2 were bandsters - the rest were gastric. I felt a little bad at first because the gastric people had lost such GINORMOUS amounts of weight already. But the leader reminded me that you cannot compare the 2 surgeries, and I knew that - but it was hard. They are supposed to start up a bandster group in the near future. I hope they do because I could definately see a difference in the questions being asked. Just wondering if anyone else goes to support groups and what they think of them. ReadySteadyGo 8 Posted April 1, 2008 Gastric Bypass is so extreme, and not adjustable, but it IS the right choice for some. But those were my reasons for steering away from it...besides price diffrence (selfpay), longer recovery time, and the "dumping" effect. I haven't gone to any support groups, but I live in n.louisiana and there are not too many support groups for anything down here. This is my support group. I love this website. Jeanieg6 1 Posted April 2, 2008 i go to one at a hospital one town away (10 miles), last tuesday of each month. very interesting. the last one they had a dr. in psycology there and talked an hour on the different emotional eating. i was inspired. also so there are some local people that are starting one this thursday. 4 of them will be banded in May and then there are just a few of us that are already banded. i've heard most support groups here fizzle out, hope this one lasts, not far at all. and this group. i'm alway reading and I post when i can.
