April Exercise Challenge

Recommended Posts

Alright so I only did a half hour tonight, but this was the most monumental half hour of exercise ever. It wasn't hard, it wasn't exhausting, I just did it. Wed are always hard for me for some reason and today was no exception. I forgot my gym clothes at home so I didn't go right after school and that is usually the death of my workout. Today was no exception. Well I got home, fixed and ate dinner, and the calculated my calories and realized I hadn't gotten enough. So I though I would make some fruit and granola dessert that I like...well I ran out of granola. So what did I do...I went to the store and got some. No big deal you say?!?! I RAN TO THE STORE. That is right instead of grabbing my car keys, I grabbed my tennis shoes and put on my gym clothes and ran to the store, got my granola, and ran home. The whole thing took just over 1/2 hour. The grocery store is about a mile away so I didn't do too shabby. Like I said, it wasn't a stellar workout but if someone had told me 8 months ago to run to the store to get granola, I would have laughed at them, got in the car, drove to dairy queen, bought a large cookie dough ice cream with extra cookie dough, and devoured the entire thing in minutes. But now... RUNNING TO THE STORE...FRUIT AND GRANOLA. Miracles really can happen!

Happy Birthday Jody !!!!

Sounds like you're having a wonderful day too !

I'd say you've got yourself a great husband there. Any man who gives his wife a large storage piece for her jewelry has obviously already given her enough jewelry to fill it up -- or at least intends to.

Well, I'm off to a sluggish start with the workouts this month. Frankly, I'm getting just a wee bit bored with my routine and I need to do something to spice it up.

I thought about buying that Pole Dancing book that Whosyadaddy recommended, but my problem is that I belong to a Co-ed gym. I mean, if I start this Pole dancing, are the guys at the gym going to start tucking dollar bills in my sweatpants? And what would be the tax implications of that?

See what I mean? Life is just so complicated -- every little thing you do has to be thought through very carefully.......

Anyhow, I think I better stick to the more traditional methods of getting my heart rate up. I'm just too much of a "worry wart" to be trying all this new stuff.......

Today was my triple Thursday -- one hour of cardio, a 30 minute abdominals class, and one hour of Yoga.

Have a wonderful night everyone!!!

Thank you everyone for the birthday wishes!! I am truly blessed with hubby. He is everything and more. The best birthday gift was the 2.4 lb loss I saw on the scale!! Holy crap! Could I finally be getting the hang of this 8 months later??? I will update the ticker on Monday when I officially weigh in. My DS17 did strength training with me tonight. It was amazing how much interest he showed. I am floating on cloud nine right now hoping I have found my way like my fellow Crazy Ates!!!!!!!!!

Happy Belated Birthday Jody! I've been so busy the past couple of days that I didn't even check in yesterday. I'm glad you got the royal treatment for your birthday. You deserve it. Congrats on the weight loss too. I think you've got it figured out now.

I'm off to a sluggish start with my exercise too. I just haven't had enough time this week and I feel it too. If I don't get enough exercise now I can tell my energy level drops and I get moody. I hope to get in a couple of really good workouts this weekend.

I barely managed to squeeze in some cardio this evening.

Thanks Becky! I was getting worried about you. I kept checking in and not seeing any posts by you. Hope all is well. You are my inspiration if that helps motivate you. I showed hubby your pictures and he was totally impressed with you too!!! Are the parents still visiting?

Jody, Thanks for thinking of me. It definately motivates me to hear that I inspire you! My parents are still here and it is absolutely exhausting. I'm finding it much more difficult to find time for myself these days. Mom still has limited mobility, but we are hoping to transition them back to their own home by the end of April. I wont know what to do with all my free time when they go home but I'm looking forward to figuring it out.

Becky,

I know from experience that it is tough. I lost both my parents very young but went through the care giver stage. Hang in there and remember that the hour or so you need for your exercise will not make or break them. They must be so proud of you!!!

Alright so I have been MIA for a few days because I had a big weekend. It was plastic surgery consult and I got married. Yep, it was VERY low key but it was fun. We didn't have a ceremony, just went to lunch and my dad did the officiating. I am going to copy a post that I wrote on the July board that I also post on. I am tired and don't want to write the entire thing over again! I know that it isn't totally about working out (though I did get in 2 workouts this weekend for a total of 2 hours!), but you are all my friends here and I wanted to share!

SO FIRST THE WEDDING!

I honestly have to say that the wedding was probably the funniest one that I have ever been to. We went to the macaroni Grill (which my brother kept calling the macaroni Hut!). Our waiter had just been married the weekend before and really didn't quite get that we were getting married right then and there. He kept talking about where we were going to get married. It finally sunk in when my dad pulled out his cell phone and started playing the wedding march so that we could begin the ceremony. He became ordained through the Universal Life Church online and took it to the extreme. He ordered his "Doctor of Divinity" packet that came with an official badge (which he wore), a parking permit (which he had hanging from his rearview mirror), a "Doctor of Divinity" Window decal which was also hanging in the car. Lee (my DH) and I were wearing matching outfits from the World of Warcraft game that we play. So we begin the vows and my dad is going through all the vows (in different languages, because his kit contained different varieties) and we are all laughing so hard that I am crying. So we finally swap our rings (just wait for the pictures!) and say our I do's. By the end our waiters were laughing, the people behind us were laughing, and our table was grabbing their sides from laughing so hard. It was very fun. My dad's wife took the pictures and is supposed to be sending them to us today. We will see though!

So that was the good news. The bad news is that the plastic surgeon that we saw doesn't want to do the surgery because it is going to be VERY EXTENSIVE and he feels that it is too far away from home. He was a very good surgeon and feels that he could do the surgery, but the likelyhood of complications (separated incision, infection, seromas which is liquid pooling under the skin) would just make it too risky to do when we live 3 hours away. Plus there is more potential for complications when they remove a lot of weight and he expects me to lose 10+ pounds from the tummy tuck! So he refered me to some surgeons over here. When I called the 4 that are here on Friday these were the results: 1 said they wouldn't do the surgery because it was too extensive, 1 didn't have a financing program, 1 said they didn't have financing BUT they would try to get it approved through insurance because of my back pain, and the other one didn't answer. The one that didn't answer does use CareCredit and I did get approved for that last night so that is an option. Also, my SIL (funny to say that now!) lives an hour from the original surgeon that I saw so I have a call into him to see if he would do the surgery if we stayed with her for a month. She graciously said that would be just fine. SOOOOOO I still have options. Also with the ability to get financed through CareCredit, I can expand where I look for surgeons and have it done in WA and stay with my brother as well. My problem is that I am running out of time. I have to have the surgery done from the end of June through the first 2 weeks in July. Anytime after that I don't know that I would be ready to go back to work at the end of August.

Before I go I have my weigh in news. It is mixed news. I lost 2 pounds so that means that I am in the 150s  But I lost 2 pounds and I am not supposed to be losing weight. Here is the thing though. I got into the 150s so I think I can now put my whole heart into maintenance. There was always that part of me that wanted to get there. Now I am there and now I can focus more on staying stable.

Okay last thing before I sign off. Has any one tried QUINOA? I bought some yesterday because my nutritionist suggested it and we are going to have it with lunch today. It is supposed to be a perfect Protein (means it has all the essential amino acids that we need) but is supposed to cook like rice. I was hoping to see if someone had eaten it and know if it sticks like rice. If it does I might be in trouble.

Salsa, you have the best life! Congrats, you two.

RE Quinoa: YUM! It doesn't stick for me but I don't have any trouble with brown rice, either. Rinse it twice before cooking to get rid of the bitter coating (this is why Europeans didn't adopt quinoa, the conquistadors thought it tasted awful).

It will definitely... um ... help move the mail!...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
