How do you know if your band has slipped or streched?

Recommended Posts

I was just wondering if anyone knows how to tell if your band has slipped or stretched? I've been banded now for about 4 months and have gradually been able to eat nearly the same amount of food as i could before the operation.

I was losing about 1kg - 2kgs a week and now i'm lucky if i lose 1kg a week. I've been staying the same. I haven't been exercising as much and have been eating the wrong things sometimes but should still be losing it.

I have about 6.5cc in my band and shouldn't be able to eat much at all! I'm wondering if i've stretched it or if it's slipped somehow. I'm currently waiting for an x-ray and to see my surgeon about it but until then i was wondering if anyone could help.

It's quite common for the band to loosen as you lose weight because there's less fat pushing on the band. I would just talk to your surgeon about more fill. :puke:

Yeah, well i'm just waiting on hearing back from my surgeon. Waiting on an x-ray as well to see if it's slipped or if it's stretched. So hopefully that will give me some peace of mind.

I don't want to get too much more fill as i find it difficult to eat things at the moment with it filled to 6.5cc but might get it put up to 7cc for a while til i lose more.

Thanks for your advice! :puke:

The band itself cannot stretch. Do you mean the pouch? There's no way to tell that without an x-ray. As for slippage, based on what I've read in the complications forum, it can be pretty obvious as you'll have bad reflux, especially at night. You can search around in that forum for more symptoms.

But honestly, it just sounds like more fill is necessary. Do you regularly chew your food to mush? Or are you saying that you can't eat the foods you used to be able to eat the way you used to eat them? I have excellent fill - I can't eat more than a cup. But if I do not chew my food to mush, I suffer the consequences. But I can eat pretty much any type of food. Even .2cc can make a difference. Good luck.

I wanted to add...I have 6.5 cc in a 10 cc band.

Yeah, i think i just need to chew more thoroughly and stop eating once i feel full...i still haven't mastered that yet. I'm just worried that my pouch has stretched. I have a 10cc band which is full at the moment to 6.5cc (i'm pretty sure) next time i go in i might get it set to 7cc...see how that goes, but i will have to master chewing thoroughly first!

Thanks for the advice, it's much appreciated! :puke:

Is great to have people on here to discuss things with. So thanks again!

i feel the same way, im 4 months out and can eat alot. i can eat fast and not even chew all of the way and im fine. i am going for my third fill on the 15th. i would like to see on an xray to see if ive stretched my stomach. my first fill worked for about 3-4 weeks then i found myself able to eat more. then i had my second fill and i didnt notice any difference with that one. maybe i should be waying out my food and just eat what im suppose to instead of pushing it. i got off track for about 3 weeks but im trying to do better now. its frustrating when things worked in the beginning and the weight fell off and now it hasnt budged for over a month and if i do lose 4-5 pounds i seem to gain it back so i am flexuating back and forth.

Andie - You may want to consider looking into Paul McKenna's book, I Can Make You Thin. He gives some good ideas on eating consciously - the way we are supposed to be eating with the band, anyway. If I could break my terribly bad habit of eating while I'm distracted (like sitting on the internet, for instance), I can guarantee I'd be losing weight a little bit quicker. I've been stalled since the end of February because I was eating more than I should. I would fluctuate up and down. I'm trying to apply the principles I learned with that book/TV program and I seem to be making a downward trend again as I lost the fluctuating pounds and have lost an additional 2.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
