I know I'm not that far out from surgery (the 26th) but this liquid diet thing is getting old. I know I'm not really hungry but I really just want some actual food. I spoke to the nutrionist today and she said it was very important I follow the liquid diet. I know, but come on, 2 weeks? They're killing me. I would give anything to have mushies. I did sneak cheese today but I feel so guilty. Anyone else struggling with this phase? I know when I get to the mushies I'll be moaning for actual food. Just needed to vent - thanks for listening!!

You've got to think outside the box.

When I was on a liquid diet, it was to be on liquids...no other purpose. Not low cal, low fat, low anything...just liquids.< /p>

So, I poured milk in w/ Froot Loops and just drank the milk.

I drank hot chocolate.

pumpkin Soup.

along with all the other broths, liquids, etc.

But if you are on a special liquid diet, like low cal or something, this wouldn't work for you.

Hang in! It's all going to be worth it soon.

I know I shouldn't have done this probably when I was on liquids but I couldn't stand the sweet stuff so I boiled skinless, boneless thighs in bullion broth with no yolk egg noodles and then pureed it so it was liquid. It was so good!!!! and satisfying too.

Hope that helps!

I feel the same way, my surgery was 3/14, and I am only down 14 pounds I thought it would be at least a little more weight loss since I have been on liquids for 17 days.

to heal.

Your stomach is a muscle and when it has to digest food (other than liquids) it has to churn and move about... If your stomach is supposed to be being "STILL" so that your BAND will set up in the right positiion you MUST follow the post op diet rules... and only progress from liquids, tomushies to solids when allowed by your Doctor (lap band manufacturer)..

These stages are for good reason, suck it up and just do as you are told or there could be unforseen complications down the road. Why risk it???

Try to keep in mind that this is a very short period of time. Soon you'll be eating again. It's a sort of sensory deprivation. I missed the crunchie textures and chewing. It passes. You'll make it.

An old lady was standing at the railing of the cruise ship

holding her hat tight

so that it would not blow away in the wind.

A gentleman approached her and said,

'Pardon me, madam.

I do not intend to be forward

but did you know that your dress

is blowing up in this high wind?'

'Yes, I know,' said the lady.

'I need both my hands

to hold onto this hat.'

'But madam, you must know that you are

not wearing any panties

and your privates are exposed!'

said the gentleman in earnest.

The woman looked down,

then back up at the man

and replied,

'Sir, anything you see down there

is 85 years old.

I just bought this hat yesterday!'

I understand craving for real food during the liquid diet stage.

When I was on the full-liquid diet, I was allowed to have cream of wheat, which is very filling. I had to be sure it was "soupy like" by adding extra fat free milk, before eating (very slowly). 4 to 6 oz. is all you need in a serving (I ate mine from a teacup). :puke: It really helped me stay full and satisfied for a long time, plus it was a blessing to have since I'm not a fan of chicken broth!

Hi Carol, it's Carol from Ohio. I'm at day 7 of the liquid diet. Surgery is April 8 with Dr. Curry in Cincinnati, self pay. I also feel like I'm starving. I want just plain tuna or even a boiled egg would help. I'm on a low Protein low calorie liquid diet...so I just keep drinking broth, hot tea (with splenda) and lots of Water. I can have up to 2 slim fasts a day but I'm saving one for lunch and dinner. Husband is off working out of town and it's just me, my dog Kodi and the refrigerator/pantry. I work from home and today is one of the days when I wish I weren't so near the kitchen and worked in an office. Actually, the beef broth satisfies me more than the chicken....don't know why. Hang in there.

Before surgery, this idea of a liquid diet is to shrink your liver so that the surgeon can see and work with your stomach - this is very important.

After surgery, the liquid diet is for healing, your stomach has to churn basically to digest food, liquifying your food decreases this chruning and thus promotes healing - yes its hard but don't push it too far

Thanks for all the wonderful comments and laughs! I'm feeling much better today and realizing that in the grand scheme of things this is a relatively small sliver and I can deal with it!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
