There is an over 60 thread on the main page where groups are broken down by age group. You should introduce yourself there too.

Everyone is very supportive at Lap Band Talk. Welcome, and best of luck with your surgery.

I just love Dr. T....I am so glad I had it done. How are you doing with the weight loss? You haven't had any issues with the band? I have had none....I am getting a fill on the 14th. I am not sure why I haven't gone to the support group...which is dumb considering I live in town and I work in the building where they are held.

Thank you for the feedback on the local dr's for fills....I've been on the hunt with little luck. Just cuz I was banded in TJ doesn't mean I have cooties

Looking forward to chatting with you all!

It's tomorrow night downstairs by Dr. T's office. You have to go in through the back door where the doctors park. You should come! We need more banded people there.

Hi All,

I am from Hillsboro I went to the meeting at OHSU Center on Bond Street on May 12th to start my process. I really liked the staff. Though I already knew most of what they told me. I liked the meeting & the way the information was presented. But the Q&A with the surgeon got cut short. When the building alarm went off shutting down the AC and causing a horrible shrill siren with flashing strobe lights on the ceiling. It was horrible we sat there trying to listen for about 20 minutes till we finaly just had to go. The noise & lights triggered an instant Migraine I thought I was going to have to throw up if I did not get out of there. I missed the next day of work. I did really like the surgeon and I asked about fills. He told me they do the fills there and the insurance includes 3-6 mos of fills in the total cost of the surgery. Which is why it ends up being almost as much for Lab Band as the Bypass. I just finished filling out papers to forward to them and will await a call to set up my initial appointment. I chose OHSU over Good Sam as they have more research, positive results and a larger sucess rate then the rest of the world. Less deaths as well. Which is great with me LOL. I am now going to have to loose 17-20 lb's. Any advice? I know how to eat. I just am one who can not move much due to injuries and disease. So any thing I put in my mouth stays.

Love to hear from all with your stories and advice.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
