Pain when stretching

Recommended Posts

I am a little over 3 weeks after being banded and have pain in my chest when I stretch my back. If I bend over back wards or really reach for something high. Is this normal? Has anyone else had this. My doc said it ok and to keep stretching.

When I stretched after surgery the only thing that pulled slightly is where my port site is. I didnt have any chest strain.

I was banded March 20th. Went back to work at the post office a week and one day later. I think it was about a week too soon. My job is to work magazines and other "flat size" mail in a big case about 7 feet wide and 6 feet high. The reaching to the top of the case made my stomach hurt pretty bad the first couple of days. As the sweeling has gone down in my abdomen I can feel my stomach around the area the band is at is still pretty swollen. I don't know if this is normal, but I don't have pain, can eat without nausea, so I'll wait it out. A 6 inch ace bandage around my abdomen helped a lot at work, but I had to put it over one of my husbands undershirts with a work tshirt over it. I still itch horribly! I was scared the first couple of days about the discomfort, but all the docs office says is "slow down", you're doing too much. I have to work, but I'm taking it as easy as I can get away with, and my work mates are helping with any lifting to be done. It seems like the activity has slowed down the healing process a little, but I can tell I'm getting better. Hang in there!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
