has anyone had experience with health net paying for lap band surgery? I was approved for biaratic surgery, but when I met with the surgeon he said that he recommended the lap band for me bacause of age, and he doesn't do the surgery. I was scheduled for an appointment with the doctor that does the lap bands for this hospital, and then was called and told the doctor doesn't take health net. My case manager at health net does not know what to do. she has told me that they only have approved the surgery to be performed at this hospital. Has anyone had similiar experiences. After 3 months I am really disappointed.

hello there,

i have worked with insurance for years but not health net.

you or your insurance company should have a list of providers that they can refer you to, if you do not know of any doctors that is participating with your insurance.

call your insurance company again, if you do not have a provider handbook, and ask them who is on their provider list. if they do not know, i don't know who is supposed to know.....someone at the insurance company should be able to help you. sometimes, the doctors are not listed as bariatric surgeons, just surgoens, so you may have to do some calling around yourself if you don't know anyone with your same insurance that may know of a doctor who does the lap band procedure.

good luck to you.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
